What are options as far as health care. I'm assuming everything would be out of pocket.

It's the same here as elsewhere. If you have insurance, it pays, if not, you pay.

Does anyone know specific costs of policies?

For example, as a single person I currently pay $425/month for traditional Blue Cross/Blue Shield. This coverage does not include eye and dental. Office visits are $15, prescription coverage is 80%, and the policy deductible is $500/year.

Any idea on what kind of coverage I can get there and what I might pay for it?

i think the insurance companies are listed in the yellow pages in the usvi phone book and job insurance policies are all different it just depends on what the employer negotiates with the insurer

One of the few plans available here to individuals is through Amedex. It is offered by a number of insurance companies here such as Marshall and Sterling (on STX). Here is a link to their website where you can also get immediate rate quotes. One note of caution is that they will dramatically increase the deductible for any pre-existing conditions. I had the misfortune of actually meeting my deductible this year and they have been pretty good about paying the claims

If you are old enough to belong to AARP they have a plan. Not great, but better than not having any insurance.
