if you don't live here you probably haven't noticed....if you do, you probably have had or you are about to have a helicopter fly low right over your house.....Looks like the annual or semi-annual ganja sweep in full force this week around STX. FYI.

Hey aqua,
Are you being funny, or is that really what it is? I figured it was rotorhead having fun!

It's not rotorhead - too big and flying too low. I agree that it's probably a drug recon flight.

Serious sirens in the neighborhood right now. Coincidence?

I doubt it. I remember last time this helo was flying around I almost got run over by a line of police cars and police ATV's dashing to where the helo was hovering!

Usually the weed sweep is in June unless we have 2 now. The copters were all over the east end last night. I thought maybe they were looking for boat people, but then I saw them inland to. Must be looking for weed.

Lol.....weed patrol! Last time the only thing they caught was our neighbor naked in their pool! They stormed the gates, hovered above, surrounded the place with ATV's & military vechiles & cop cars.....I got some great photos (of the melee melee, not the x rated pool shots).
All that excitement, no drugs and a very upset pool user............perhaps they should look in the ever increasing & growing "pot" holes!

Actually it is metallic teal with metallic gold trim. 🙂 And I haven't been buzzing around lately. The Christmas winds take the fun out of flying. Soon Come.

Anyone concerned about the reckless driving by the convoy of agents on the road during the raids? On my way home tonight I was at an intersection when the convoy of 6 vehicles and a couple ATVs came flying by IMO recklessly. No sirens and only small small blue lights. This jogged my memory about the past few years and seeing the recklessness of these agents driving. Last year the military hummvee was doing the busts while driving around with a huge cow skull tied to the hood. Seemed very unprofessional and probably not military regulation.

as noOne knows...the local force is involved and often takes the evidence.

I hope certain laws ease the tension on MJ...but that's another thread...

just thinking out loud here tonight

Aqua,

the only reason I can think of why they would not have their sirens on and only minimal lights would be because they were on their way to a raid and would not want to give away their position. The only reason I think this is because I was watching a show called D.E.A. and they did the same thing...however I dont live on the island and am only speculating! So that is my 2 cents, but I'm glad that nothin' happened to y'all and hope nothin' does in the future!

Dan - my thoughts are the helicopter hovering just overhead probably let the farmers know they have been spotted already. It's pretty obvious and I dread the day an innocent person gets hurt because of their reckless driving. Usually these raids net a million dollars or more of street value weed, though i never hear of ANY arrests associated. From what I hear it's pull the plants, take the grow supplies and leave. If there are never any arrests, why not use sirens and drive a little more careful?

They should go after all of the cocaine. I'm sure they duffel bag the weed, take it home, dry it out, and have the cops sell it.

If they put the same effort of chasing down ganja farms as they did in cracking down on violent crime, guns, or coke things could be different.

Isn't this in violation of a Supreme Court ruling????
I thought you couldn't fly around doing searches & no binoculars.........has to be seen with the "naked" eye & no more than 300 feet!!!
I know I know..........STX lives by a different set of rules...........how ever even in a US Territory, FEDERAL LAW reigns ovah local made up as you go laws!

that's probably why there is NEVER an arrest....it wouldn't hold up in court.

I really thought that they had heat sensors for the drug raids - to see if one area was producing more heat than another to find patches of pot plants.
