This is my first post and obv Im new and considering a move within 2 years. I have 0 questions as I'm trying to soak everything in from the threads.:-)

I'm a 27 year old AA female who is a registered nurse and also a lab tech from Buffalo, NY (Yes I am a die hard Buffalo Bills fan and yes I know we suck). No kids, no pets, and no house to worry about selling. If I don't touch my savings I should have close to $25,000 when I arrive. The closest experience I had to island life was going to greater portmore jamaica for 3 months each summer to visit family. loved every minute of it besides the cold showers and random wandering goats in the roads *-) My initial plan is to come as a travel nurse for a pmv and then decide from there what my next plan of action is. I see from the threads that travel nurses may not get treated as well, but in my situation i think going about it that way is more of an economically sound decision. So if it means getting treated not so hot for 3-6 months Im willing to take the beating:$) I could tech start planning a move now, but I'm trying to figure out if I want to pursue graduate studies and if so I need to get the ball rolling on that while Im here in the states.

So far Im on page 57 of 495 of skimming through all the threads:P

Just wanted to say hi and thanks so much for all of this info!!

One of my best friends' girlfriends was a Traveling Nurse...she came for the job, but she ended up staying...send me a PM if you would like me to introduce you to her via e-mail...

CheerNurse...

Welcome to the boards! I am also an RN hoping to go down in Aug/Sept for a travel contract and if all goes well, stay! At the very least, a 26 week contract will give me 6 months on island and 6 months off. The people on the boards are SO friendly and provide invaluable information for anyone considering a move! They will give you the good, the bad and the ugly. But, like one of them said, 'anyone with sight can see the good things,"

You should also check out Delphi Forums, some good info there on assignments in USVI. I have talked to recruiters at Trustaff and Clinical One. Trustaff seems to have the 'exclusive' contract with Schneider but will 'turf' out assignments they can't fill to other agencies (at least that is how it was explained to me). Getting license by endorsement isn't so bad (compared to Cali/NYC).

PM me anytime. The boards become addictive, there is SO much great information. Good luck!!
