I just signed on to board. Have a son living in STX for almost a year , my daughter (graduating High School) & a friend have decided to make the move also. They will be living in Christensted not far from Harbor. I told them when they get there( end of June) to walk the area around the boardwalk and go into places and ask for job applications. Are there Any places that are hiring in July? Both have work experience as cashiers ,worked in small Deli store, did food prep etc.
my concern is they have place to live but will not be able to afford an island car for awhile. looking over message board I see the bus transportation isn't the best. We live in Vermont & a 15 or 20 min. walk to work would not be a major hassle. The weather certainly makes that easier!
Really just wanted to say this message board has been very helpful to me and I'm still researching the back messages.

Many seasonal workers leave in May and June, so even though the businesses aren't gearing up for the next tourist season until about October, many still do need to hire a person or two to get them through the off-season when their winter workers depart. Some of the businesses don't really have much of an off-season of a lot of their business comes from locals. There is also still a pretty good tourism flow during the summer. It may be more of a bargain-hunter tourist group instead of a snowbird-with-lots-of-cash-to-blow-daily group, but the basic service companies still do their typical business. The restaurants like Brew Pub and Tutto Beme and "Rum Runners don't suffer a lot during the summer.

Hello there. Just as an FYI: There is a very active temp agency in Christiansted. Although I could not work at the time, my room mate found quite a bit of work prior to landing FT employment, which was after that magical 6 month period.

I don't know the name of the agency, but it is probably the only one in C'sted. If they check in the phone book, they should be able to make an appointment the same day....and perhaps temp at some things that will build their resumes or skills a bit.

Just an idea, and hopefully a helpful one!

Warm regards,

Dan

The temp agency's offices are in the courtyard of the Penthany Building on King Street. From the street, you can recognize the building by all the lawyer's signs hanging in a row! It's a couple blocks closer towards the fort than Scotia Bank. This is also where new real estate agents go to take their exams for full licensure once they get their temporary license approved.
