I'm moving to St Thomas at the end of Aug and I arrive into San Juan at 1:30am and then have to wait (with my large dog in his kennel) until 9am before I catch a Cape Air flight to STT. I cannot seem to get information about the hours of the San Juan airport-- is it 24 hrs? will they kick me out on the street at 2am with my dog?? i'm nervous to be stuck in PR at 2am by myself! The airport number I keep calling just rings and rings...

They are 24 hours. Not to worry.

San Juan airport SJU is a full-on 24 hour international airport operation. The food sucks there, but you will have only the "usual" airport problems while waiting in "mostly" air conditioned comfort.

There may be a hotel there too...it may be hard finding a place to eat that serves real food at that time... A lot of the restaurants close by then.

The latest operating food service is the snack shop down by gate one and they close between 9:30 & 10 PM.

There is a hotel at the airport in San Juan. Why don't you consider getting a room. Beats sleeping on a plastic chair.

FYI-- Last time I checked the airport hotel at SJU does NOT accept pets. But if you find a quiet corner of the airport, I'm sure security wouldn't mind if you rest your head next to the crate?

thanks everyone! i called the hotel and they don't accept dogs, so I'll be roughing it on the hard chairs i suppose. at least i don't have to worry about my stuff getting stolen if i fall asleep since my dog will hopefully bark (or so i hope, he's pretty friendly!)-- thanks again
