Hello~
I am just wondering if anyone knows why Continental airlines just told me there is an embargo on pets to stt. I called jetpets also, they said it was no problem (they are way too expensive for me right now). I want to get a straight answer before moving forward with my plans. It would be a bummer to get everything all worked out just to find out I cant bring my babies. I have looked on the board and saw other people that are just as confused as I am. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Shannon

I figured it out! I called Dr. Williamson on STT and found out that its is fine to bring my dogs. Continental Airlines just doesn't have anyone right now to work with to ship dog to the island!

I just called Continental and learned that there are no confirmed reservations for pets between now and August 16th for flights to San Juan...(not St. Thomas) . The Live Pet Desk person told me you have to call three days before your flight to find out if there is room for your pet in cargo. If the flight is more that 75% booked, your pet will probably not be able to go on the flight. After August 16th, confirmed reservations for your pet in cargo are possible to San Juan.

Thanks! I don't know why it has to be so confusing.

Usually it's due to the outside temperature before leaving. There is a certain temperature that is too hot to allow animals to travel in the hold.

we brought our dogs, it was a nightmare. too cold when we left n.y. so we drove to atlanta. plane was hit by lightning. next plane was too late for the 1st seaplane reservation we had out of stt. we got there, i had arranged to have us fly thus: we had to take 2 separate planes, the 2 dogs were not allowed to be on the same plane. the seaplane was the only plane that would take our dogs. i told them in advance, the dogs sizes and weights, the kennels sizes and weights, etc. i had health certificates from the same week. we arrived after a very expensive taxi fare from the airport to the seaplane, and they looked at us and our dogs and they said they wouldn't take them. after much begging, pleading, and fuming anger which i had to swallow and for another large some of cash, supposedly for excess baggage... i got to board the plane with my 2 dogs sharing 1 of their kennels and leaving my husband behind... so best of luck to you!

I am truly sorry you had such a rough haul. It is so stressful shipping your pets down even if everything goes well. Its hard not to worry about them. I would not suggest seaplane for anyone bringing pets unless its small enough they can bring it in the plane with them. To get to stx from pr or stt (if you cant get american) I would suggest a small airline like cape air or sea flight vi. You can usually (much harder to do in season) rent out the whole flight so its just you and your pets.

we are having a heck of a time now bringing our dogs on the same flight. American has told us 2 are allowed on the plane and one has to go in cargo. If that happens with the one in cargo they will keep him in San Juan for x amount of days and we will have to pay for a service to take care of him. Not an option! Is there another way? Is there a pet moving service that will transport them? Way to much to think about with this, I have a lot more on my plate with the business and all.
