Hi Lindsay,

In most places shorts are fine. If you intend to eat dinner someplace fancy, like the Ritz Carlton or Caneel, you might bring a pair of dress pants.

I would think that there are many many places you would want dress pants or casual dress pants, not just the ritz. I am not there yet granted. But from alot of the research and jobs apps I have seen alot of medium to fine dining. I am taking lighter dress pants so I wont get hot, I just got a pair of linen dress pants, I am thinking 'miami vice'.

Also dont underestimate all the luggage you can have, i am pushing my limits on all of it 2 bags checked -62inches max 50 lbs, a carry on - 45 inches max - 40 lbs (THAT is huge, i thought carry ons had to be tiny. plus you are allowed one personal Item- purse, backpack, etc
I am packing all plus a bookbag/backpack.
I figure if i need more dress clothes for work or such I can do my fine shopping at the K-mart. then out for a fancy dinner at taco-bell.

I hope to leave saturday??? maybe? trying to sell my dang car and then I am off. Should be all done tomorrow or the next day.

hmmm, i should work on getting tan also mine is already fading from the summer.

philgazi,

STX has plenty of nice restaurants and in most "medium to fine dining" restaurants on STT you will find that shorts are fine for dinner. Long pants might be desirable for warmth in enclosed, air-conditioned restaurants but many very good restaurants have outdoor service and casual dress, including nice shorts, is perfectly acceptable.

And bring bug spray with those shorts. We've had rain recently, and not much wind!
