OK....I'm going to give you the short story to all of this because I have to continue packing....it is THAT great of a PMV for me!

Arrived on island on Tuesday. Kicked it with Linda from Michigan at Off the Wall. Flight was uneventful (thank God), and the rental car (Budget) was great in getting us on the road. Got the free rum punch at the airport (had Banana and Raspberry with the punch...mmmmmm....). Tied on a good buzz and then went to the Best Western and went to bed. Found the room to be very comfortable and clean. I read a lot of bad posts, and I guess I expected the worst. It wasn't bad. Nice pool, beautiful view of the harbor and seaplanes (that is where my guy is flying), and nice people at the bar there, The Mix, every night.

Wednesday.....looked at rentals out of the Avis. The place that is listed in my stuff as "Caribbean View" kinda scared us. AD sounds nice, but, the place reminded me of the, well, how should I say this? Ghetto, I guess, at best. Looked at a great cottage that a lady has for $650 including all util., but, wants a SINGLE only. No couples, as the utilities get too high. If you want info, let me know...I'll give you the info....it is GORGEOUS!

Thursday.....went for coffee in Gallow's Bay and met a guy there that told us his uncle was going to rent a cottage that is on his property. Went and looked at it, and it was perfect for short-term. One year old and W/D, one BR, nice kitchen, limited sea view and $650/mo. WOW! So, we obviously told him that we wanted it and we are hoping to move in at the end of next week or so.

Friday......looked at houses from 1 to 4 or so with Alexandra Marshall. (What a GREAT gal she is.....she seems to have ESP to know what we want and didn't want.....) then went to Off the Wall again, chit-chatted with Mike the bartender, did a travel booking for him and he passed out my cards freely, as I was able to get his girlfriend airfare for $250 cheaper than he could find it elsewhere, and, I did it in 10 minutes with a beer in my hand. Had some of their FABULOUS chili....really.....you must try it....just like homemade (mmmmm...kidney beans)....but, better. Then, started to head back to the Best Western. On the way back (there were 4 of us), we were in a near head-on collision. Someone trying to overtake, coming at us, then he decided to try and tuck back in behind the car he was attempting to over-take and hit him in the back end, sent him spinning into our car, and we did a full turn and a half, ended up in the wrong lane the wrong way, and everyone in all 3 cars actually walked away from the accident. Took about 45 minutes for an ambulance, followed by a tow truck and cab (naturally), and an ADDITIONAL 45 minutes for the police officers. They measured on the roads with a tape measure, trying to reconstruct the wreck and implying (of course), that is was probably our fault. After much discussion, the officer figured out, (I think, I hope) that it wasn't....needless to say, the police report still isn't completed. Needs to be signed by the supervisor....I think I may have heard this story somewhere before!

Saturday...without a car.....so, we had a nice breakfast at the Advocado Pitt and while the guys were discussing airplanes, I went to Milemark Watersports and asked them if they were "by chance" hiring crew for the boats. (This is EXACTLY the job I wanted, as I decided for a job of joy over a career of cash).....she responded that "yes, as a matter of fact, we are" and that was that. Looks like I will be doing fishing charters and all the sails, SCUBA, desk work, administrative, and working as a Concierge at the Buccaneer as well, selling their services! I'm so excited....1st try and hired on the spot.

Sunday.....kicked it at the pool, had some good vittles, etc. Just relaxed, knowing that my guy had to start training the next day and I had my job landed.

Monday.....he went to training, I went to the pool.....end of story.

Tuesday....left back for the states....got back home on Wednesday, and am packing like crazy to get ready for the move on Monday. I will arrive back on island on Tuesday, and they said I can feel free to start the job as soon as I unwind from traveling.....

I can't wait....I'm sooooooo excited! 🙂 I can't believe (like Linda from Michigan said) how it all fell into place for us....take the bad with the good, and enjoy the scenery. I swear...she was right...if it's meant to be, it will be....no hitches except the wreck....at least we got THAT out of the way nice and early!

I'll keep updating everyone with the job/housing posts out of the papers, but, it may be a little slower when I am on island full-time, as I will be starting my new "dream" job......and not taking my 'puter to start.....but, I'll "get 'r done"!

I told the lady at my new place of employment that I wasn't looking for great pay....I'm looking for a great job.....she told me I "came to the right place"....made me laugh, and realize that it's NOT all about money!!!!

Any questions, I will fill you in, PM me....otherwise, I continue packing tonight, say my "goodbyes" to friends and family and move on to my new life in 3 days.....

Big Hugs and Lots of Love to you all!

Alix

Congratulation on the new job and a great appartment. I am working on dh to just book a flied to hook up with the builder and perhaps an architect who has experience with domes so we can get our elevation etc. get started. I mention before we have a lot on Little Princess. Most likely I will be down there with the children supervising the building process wile dh stays on his job her. Unless off course he finds a job on STX and we all can go together. But as Linda said often one does not qualify as residence till you have lived there for 1 year. I think that is the true reason why so many have trouble finding work from the mainland.

Iris: The one year residency rule has to do with EDC companies. They have to hire a percentage of bona fide residents, defined as at least a year's residency.

Yeah Alix - thanks for sharing. Glad it worked out (except for the car wreck situation). (tu)
