The Daily News reports that, "WAPA Executive Director Hugo Hodge Jr. stormed out of the meeting when commissioners considered the consequences of taking away the source of funding for $16 million annually.

"If you abandon it, you are abandoning funds that are critical to the function of the utility," Hodge said after returning from several minutes of blowing off steam by shouting in the parking lot outside of the Public Services Commission office at Barbel Plaza on St. Thomas."

Good grief!

He has a tenacious hold on his position and you'll have to drag him out kicking and screaming before that day will happen.

I can imagine trying to run a business on a thread and getting money pulled out from under you is frustrating. Especially when you have 16 people trying to run your business, who don't know anything about running a business.

I don't know much about details of Wapa business but it can't be easy dealing with customers like usvi government that won't pay its bills or live up to commitments, and technology and equipment that is way outdated. I am not a Wapa sympathizer after years of paying outrageous rates but kicking a dead dog is easy from the outside. I would be frustrated trying to keep that utility afloat, running it day to day and setting a corrective course for the future.

I don't disagree at all - but these are the frustrations involved in running a business and running out into the parking lot of a public plaza to throw a hissy fit isn't appropriate behavior.

They need to make the changes that all businesses do to survive. They have an archaic administration system that could be modernized and efficiently run versus the amount of administration staff it takes to run in confusion.

Hodge is doing the right thing on the operation end now he needs to take a hard look at his overheads.

That's why it's always good to have a propane stove and a 2 tank system so you can switch to a full tank when one runs out. Nothing is worse than having WAPA go out and discover you're out of propane in the middle of cooking dinner as well! Especially during the holidays.

Wonder why WAPA went out this time? It's been a perfect day!

It went out in STX for over two hours. Maybe he was making a statement to his political buddies...

I'm in the Morningstar hill area. The power has been out for the past 5 hours. Looks like it just now came back on.
