Homestead exemptions reminder

For all the new homeowners in VI, don't forget to apply for property tax exemptions that you qualify for. You can't get homestead here, if you have it elsewhere. 

For those of us who do have it already, don't forget VI Government is now making you reapply for the exemption.

Think it's every 2 years, now?

I’m not familiar with why someone might qualify for an exemption.  Can you give a couple of examples as to why.  Thanks.

I couldn't find the information in the Lieutenant Governor's web site, but here's a link to one of the real estate stores with more information on the exemptions:

Note that the residence must be your primary residence to qualify.

Here's the form you complete to get your homestead exemption to reduce your property tax.  It has to be notarized and submitted to the Tax Assessor's office prior to January 1.

You can only have one homestead exemption - so if you have two or more homes anywhere in the US you have to pick one as your homestead.
