Does anyone know more about the proposed/upcoming Hospitality School with funds from the Divi Casino than what was in the on-line STX Source???

I am interested in getting in on the ground floor of this happening.

I just retired after 24 years of service at Walt Diseny World and will be relocating to STX in the near future. My husband and I will be flying into STX for a week on March 25th with plans to get a line on a place to live and jobs.

I know there are some others planning to relocate from Central Florida. I wish everyone well as we all make our life-changing plans.

I have appreciated information given to my questions as well as others - that I didn't have to ask from other Board participants.

judi: I bet that the school will be set up for Virgin Islands youth. Are you looking to teach in it?? The Divi is probably having to do this as part of their EDC benefit. And most jobs dealing wth EDC will require that you are a resident for at least a year.

Yes, I would like to teach there. Thanks for the info about residency. I wouldn't want to get my hopes up too high.

EDC companies do have to hire a certain number... and certain percentage of their employees... from among the "residents" of the island, which means you have to have lived here for one calendar year. They do have the ability to hire new arrivals, but tend to use the few open positions for essential personnel. If a job cannot be filled with candidates on-island, they can recruit and hire from elsewhere. It may well be that they do need a few instructors in hospitality from off-island so they can get people with the type and years of experience and training that you probably have.

On a side note, there is another man who recently resigned from Disney who plans to move here in 2006. Maybe we can open a small theme park on-island. lol

If you are ready to be here full-time, I have a 6-9 month rental available in a very nice house on the east end at a nice monthly rate. It'll be available in about a week.
