House Sitting?

I'm graduating from Purdue University in a few weeks and considering a move to the islands. I have been wondering if any of you happen to know of anyone with a need for a house sitter. I have visited STT, but don't know any residents. It seems like this would be a great way to get established.

The dates and location would be very flexible. I am considereing further education at UVI, but that wouldn't start until the fall.

Thanks for your help

These jobs usually go by word-of-mouth to people already on the islands. I think it would be tough to get one sight unseen. Better work on plan B.

That’s what I was afraid of. It’s worth a try I guess.

I’m graduating with a degree in Management and minors in Finance and Information Systems. My work experience is mostly in sales and I’m currently the finance manager at a Toyota dealership here in Indiana (resume at www.schweihs.com).

I know it’s difficult to find work while not in the area, but I’d be open to about anything. If anyone has any ideas on where to go or who to contact I’d appreciate the help.

There is a Toyota dealership on St. Croix, don't know about St. Thomas. I've seen several sales type jobs in the St. Croix Avis. I don't have the number, but you might try Tropical Marketing. I thinkk they do some kind of dining guide and are looking for sales staff.

Hello Dan,

You got the answer to the house sitting question... Ill add to it - not only is it word of mouth but often these jobs are given to someone the home owner knows or knows through a friend thus word of mouth within a network of who you know in many cases.

As for work:
You can try the Toyota Dealership or other Auto Dealerships since you have direct experience in that field - look in the yellow pages at http://www.viphonebook.com for listings. What about working in a bank? Again check the yellow pages. You might also contact resorts/hotels for work in managment or their accounting departments. I would say look in the yellow pages and look up businesses you feel you would be qualified and/or interested in working in. And then contact them and see about faxing your resume. It is often difficult to find work via phone from off island (not impossiable though) but its a great idea in your field to do some background work before you get here that might get you interviews or contacts to follow up with.

Good Luck.
