housing on Stx

Good day!
I am looking for housing for myself on St. Croix. I will know for sure within 2 weeks if I will be appointed the position there. After training, etc., I am looking at around the middle of March to be coming down.

I need just a studio/cottage - water, utilities - I live a very simple life on the mainland and look forward to an even simpler one on stx.

Any help would be wonderful. Also, thinking about a motor scooter or small motorcycle for transportation - are they use/available on the island?

Every day the Avis (local newspaper) lists apartments all over the island. Right now (high season) there are not as many. However off season you can have your pick. Prices range from about $350 to $1200 for a one bedroom or studio. The key will be to find a place where you feel comfortable and is close to work. Talk to as many people as you can and get their opinions about location and price. Get here, rent short term and then find the location and place you want.

As far as a motorcycle is concerned it would not be my first choice nor would I recommend it to my friends. My neighbor has a 'mc' but also has an "island car".
you are safer and dryer in a car. I rarely see a motor scooter, but they use to rent them here.

isa...

i agree with dunk 100%. find a place to live short-term if/when u move here. from there u'll be able to figure out the island and what areas u enjoy most. then u can move onto a different house during slow season. as for the motorcycle/scooter... don't do it. there are a few on island, but few and far between. i only see one or two scooters around, though they do sell them at western auto. all the rental scooters have left island to go over to st thomas. i wish u the best of luck in ur endevours.
