Housing overlooking airport

I have found numerous housing opportunities overlooking the airport at what I consider reasonable rent, is this because of the jet noise, bad scenic overview, tough location to get to...what? I just don't want to get excited over nothing, drive up there and find out your down wind of the sewage treatment plant...(L)

Cheers,
Peter

lol well there is virtually no runway on STT so i suppose you run the risk of a planeload of tourists smashing into your house, i think that area is great because there is less traffic getting into town on ship days, on STX the area around the runway is quite flat with very little view of anything except all the birds from the landfill

I lived at Plantation Manor (rt 33) up on the hill above the airport for 3 years and never had a problem! Don't think I would want to be down low- get up on the hill!

Thanks! Is there a landmark or something you can give me? When you say get up the hill up higher than a certain cross street or developement or something? I'm going to start making calls next week and only have maps I downloaded from the internet.

Cheers,
Peter

The runway runs west to east, all the incoming flights (not including the sea plane) come in over the water from the west and do not fly over the houses....all departing flights leave , also west to east (weather permitting) west to east and turn immediately south over crown bay...very few homes affected. Now....as far as sewage.....its all in the wind direction:)

Oh....the hills are on the north side of the runway....not affected much by aircraft noise unless they are in the lower hills.

From what I know you should look at the ads from the west side of the island.
If the ad says up Crown mountain (road) that usually means you will be overlooking the airport (and the ocean for that matter) facing South. I believe Contant is an area lower and a little more closer to town but you might also overlook the airport from some areas in Contant.

Thank-you very much everyone, some of the names and locations are starting to fall in place.

I can't honestly remember, but Plantation Manor, I believe was upper Contant. I had also lived 4 years on Scott Free Rd. which is Liliendal and Marienhoj. I loved that South side view! My old apt., 1 bedroom, was up for rent just a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if it has rented yet or not. Rent was listed in the $800 area. Good Luck!

Plantation Manor is about one mile up Crown Mountian (Hwy 33). Crown Mountain Road peaks about 2.5 miles up, and then goes over to the northside. Higher up in Contant might not be so bad. However, based on what my tenants have told me, I would suggest going to see the place before making a commitment. They have told me some horror stories about what people are trying to rent.

We are 2 miles up Crown Mountain Road and overlook the airport. Plane noise is not a problem. The only time I ever notice is when the really big jets take off in the afternoon about 3 ish.
