We currently live in Maine, but have property in St Croix and will eventually be relocating. This past summer, up here in Maine, my husband had trouble finding people during the week to go out sailing while the weather was great - that got us thinking that perhaps there may be someone in St Croix that wanted to go out sailing but did not want to go out by themselves. We of course would bring bring lunch & refreshments if anyone wanted to meet us and go out for a sail. We are arriving next Saturday the 8th and staying until the 18th and would love to sail!!!
Look forward to hearing back

Stacie, we have made friends with people here and sail on occasion with others on their boat. I think if you like sailing and talk of it, people here will invite you out. It won't be a problem. Walk the docks and stop and talk to people about their boats if you are wise about boats you may make friends with your likes.

I suspect many vacationers would love to exchange a day of sailing for a picnic lunch. Sailing charter excursions usually cost upwards of $150 per person for a half day outing.

We've found that on STX very few people spend much time truly "sailing". More often the day outings for boating are spent hanging out on the west end of Buck Island. There are a couple of captains who do tourist sail excursions out of Green Cay Marina if you don't get lucky and meet a boat owner who offers you a free ride.

The "Roseway" sailing schooner has just arrived in STX for the winter season and will be offering sailing excursions from Christiansted Harbor. There are some power boats that head out for fishing charters, also.

Thank you for the info. Up here in Maine, since we have such a short season and try to soak up every nice day, many enjoy just sailing around the lakes or ocean as a fun day. We've been on some of the "tourist" sail trips as well as the Roseway last season - they have all been really nice! But, we were just hoping there may be someone looking for some company to sail for a bit in the nice Caribbean sea.

Being on STX and also having a house and sailboat on an island in Maine, I absolutely understand what your thoughts are. Often in Maine or elsewhere in New England, one has a sailboat that requires a bit of help from crew, as it appears you do. Often one's spouse or others are not available to help as crew and one still wants to go for a sail and one needs crew during the short sailing season, so one actively looks for anyone who would enjoy an afternoon sail and just help out with winches, etc. Simply for the pleasure of sharing a sail. I think on STX there are those who own boats who would love to share a sail. Certainly we have been asked to do so. So, I say keep your message posted and perhaps someone who would appreciate able crew who, as a bonus would provide lunch and refreshments. might be in touch. Good luck...if we had a sailboat here, we'd certainly appreciate your company!
