housing

First, thanks for all of the help from everyone in my previous posts. I do have a couple of other questions though. I have decided that STT will be the island that I will be relocating to for various reasons; availability of jobs/housing, amenities, and proximity to the other U.S. and British islands being the major ones. Now that I have this figured out, I really need to know what to do about housing. I'm a 23m, college grad and plan on more than likely working in the hospitality field. I also won't have a car, at least not until I can afford to ship mine. Where on the island should I look for housing? Should I try to find housing before coming down or after? Also, how is the Villa Fairview as a place if I decide not to find longer term housing until I get down there? Any input would be greatly appreciated! KARL

Hello Karl,

Without transportation and job in hospitality I usually recommed the East End of the island. There are several resorts/hotels out that way, several restaurants, a number of marinas with charters leaving from them... and there are residences and condo developments... and its a popular area and pretty easy to get to the main road to catch a bus or $1 ride to town... and there are grocery stores, doctors, mail center, the ferry to St. John in that area too.

Its hard to find apartments without being on island, but you could try and do some research on that. Villa Fairview is good for temp. housing.

Karl,

I am also a 23 year old college grad who is moving to St. Thomas! I'm not planning on bringing my car either because of the immense costs/hassels that comes along with shipping it. From what I've read island transportation (buses and $1 rides) seems efficient enough to get around. I'm looking for an apartment that is already furnished preferably on the East End (I hear that is where its all happening) When are you going to the island? I am going for a pre-move visit this August and I will be moving there in September. Let me know what you find in terms of housing, I'd be curious to keep in touch with you, since we are both going to be in the same boat. You can email me if you want at [email protected] and I really look forward to talking to you!

Erin

Or, if you don't want to be on the East End, Midtown Guesthouse is another option for short-term rentals. Convenient location, easy to walk to lots of stuff, catch safaris, hitch hike, etc.
