I have not heard that. Hovensa has very few employees there. Probably less than 5? Former HOV employees were transitioned to a contractor position some time ago and their insurance plan would be thru the contractor. In any case they will be eligible to COBRA their plan.

COBRA isn't a permanent option and usually very expensive, especially if you're unemployed.

Common business practice and I'm sure that if it's so they were given advance notice.

Everything is expensive when you are unemployed. Most people who have employer sponsored health insurance have no idea what that plan really costs and it seems expensive because the employee is now paying 100% of the cost of their plan. The last time it applied to me I was eligible to continue my plan for 18 months. As an employee my contribution was 100.00 a week and my employer paid the rest. Under COBRA I was responsible for their portion and mine, $1100.00 a month.
