How fast is local internet? Is it consistent?

I want to move to the islands from nyc and my husband works on the computer all day and needs it to be fast! Does anyone know our options?? Dsl? Satellite?? Thanks

Both DSL and satellite are options. Your choices for DSL are VI Access ( http://www.choice.vi/, then click Internet) and VI Powernet ( http://www.vipowernet.net/). Both should run about $100/month.

There is also a satellite service called Starband which you can get through Satellite Entertainment Services (www.1800dish.com). It promises higher speeds but there's a hefty up front fee to install the dish. If you're interested in Dish Network you can actually use the same dish for both and save some money.
