How hard to find

We're planning our stx move – with a largish family. How hard will it be to find a home to rent with a minimum of four bedrooms? We can make do with three, but that'll be tight. Four would be good, five ideal. Are we dreaming? Are we crazy? Everything I read on this board talks about one and two bedroom places. That's not for us. We're a close family, but not THAT close.

Thanks. jb

There are some larger properties to be found sometimes, although most have three or fewer bedrooms. There are properties with two or more units that might also be workable since sometimes there are interior doors that are locked off to separate the units into separate quarters, but that could be opened to make a larger living suite for a family like yours. Expect to pay a fairly high rental rate for a 4-5 bedroom property.

When are you moving? We have a nice one that has lots of rooms, but it is rented through the end of the year.

JohnB-

I can't locate any other posts where you talk about your family, but I am assuming with the need for at least 4 bedrooms that you are bringing a minimum of 3 children? Please pardon my presumptuousness, as money may not be a factor for you, and I am assuming a job is waiting for you? - but you HAVE read past posts regarding schooling, the cost of living, children on the island, etc.? One thing you might do is search for Teresa's posts - she was very informative regarding schooling and lifestyle for her children, although she was on STT.....and also on the opening page of the forum there is a guide to rental prices that can be expected and to the cost of living in general. I'm not sure I find the $2000 price range to be realistic, however, for a 4 BR house....I'd be looking WAY at the upper end of the figures quoted. Five bedrooms? You might be lucky to find one if you could even afford it. You MIGHT be able to find a house with two units available with 2 BR each but you'll lose a lot of space in dual kitchens, etc. Good luck. Word of mouth following your arrival may be the best way but I would imagine the larger places are managed by the real estate companies. I think you will probably find, as Alexandra alluded to, that if you can find such a property it is going to cost you a pretty penny.
