I have a Wells Fargo/ OPTUM Bank HSA account.
I have been trying to access their web site to check on my account for a week and no luck.
Turns out because of the amount of fraud coming out of the USVI they have blocked all access to their HSA web sit from the USVI
Could if be the financial condition of the Territory that has prompted this action ???
Can I still use my HSA account here???? they will get back to me on that .

They have apps that will change your ip to a stateside one. You could try that to access your account

This has been happening to me.
I have broadband and innovative. Happened on either network.
Used my phone as a hotspot and was fine.
Called various service tickets and it is now fixed.
Not sure if it will happen again though.
Never got info like you did though!

Our business has a credit card terminal and this month when the statement came in, it had a note on the bottom that said henceforth every VISA credit card transaction originating in the VI would have a 1.5% surcharge added to it due to the number of fraudulent transactions here.

VI Nice...

Are we not using chip readers? I don't recall. I would think at least there should be no surcharge for chip reader transactions since that was the whole point of it.

I don't know what you are talking about COLDER. I have never ever had that problem with my financial institutions which are all stateside. We lived here for 7 years and for past 3 years only spend 3 months on STX. I have always been able to access Citibank Visa CC account, my investments with UBS, and our bank account. I have never been denied access either when we lived here full time or now part time.

That's becoming more and more common. One of my stateside banks does this; it considers my login through a local ISP to be "out of the country". I just log into their site through my phone or its hotspot with no problem, like quirion mentioned. Gringojj's approach should work also. It has no effect on the account, just your ability to look at your info.

Oh, man - I have learned to NEVER ask about whether my VI residency affects any existing account I have, no matter how long I've had it. The answer is rarely favorable. I lost my favorite cash-back credit card this way. Hope you get a positive outcome.

Dump Wells Fargo.
They're one of the big banks behind the Dakota pipeline.
Chase is another.
Didn't they also get busted not too long ago for cheating their clients?

I log in to my stateside credit card account through a stateside proxy server from the VI as well. Otherwise bank website says I can't do certain things from outside the country.
Haven't tried using the phone hotspot yet, will try that when I think of it. Haven't tried my Optum HSA yet from VI as I don't go into that much but the proxy server should work for that as well.

I did call and speak to OPTUM about not being able to get on line.
Their IT department called me back and we still had no luck logging in and IT said they would look into the issue further. Within 10 minuets they called me back to explain that as 1/31/2017 they had blocked all access from the USVI because of fraud.
As a FYI, this is no longer a Wells Fargo account as they turned all the HSA accounts over to OPTUM Bank last year.
So far I'm still good with my other bank accounts in the states...but only time will tell if they also follow suit as the USVI does not have a stellar reputation with the financial institutions right now.

Must be USVI Nigerians and that fast internet provided by Innovative. Deadly combo. Will have to use Vtunnel or warm hole to circumnavigate.

When I ordered furniture from Rooms to Go, they wouldn't accept any of my credit cards as they all originated from the VI. Didn't matter whether Visa, MasterCard, Discover, etc. Had to use my sister's to place and pay for the order and then reimburse her. I never had that issue, luckily, with any other places I've ordered from. It didn't change when my billing address changed from VI to FL, either tho I thought the billing address was the issue, originally.

That is interesting and alarming information, Alana - thank you for sharing.

All the more reason, if you move here with accounts from the states, do all you can to keep them.
