I hope no one minds me flooding this forum with stupid questions but here I go... STT is pretty humid, right? How serious of a toll does this take on computers, cameras etc. I am kind of an electronics dork and I am just wondering if I am going to be putting aside another $300/month to run a dehumidifer or a.c.?

I find that electronics last just fine unless you are in an area that gets the salty seablast. The VI actually has lower humidity than some states due to the tradewinds. Surge protection and power conditioning seems to be the biggest electronics concern due to WAPA. I've had the same laptop for a couple of years now. No a/c. Work it in the field etc.. But I live in the hills and get very little salt. Waterfront homes seem to be repalcing everything electronic every few years. Some less than that.

we are about a half mile from the water and after about 2 years we had to replace our computers and other electronics so i turned the smallest bdrm into an office and put in a window ac unit, i put my new computers and all my books, cds, dvds leather ect... anything i wanted to stay cool and salt and mildew free, so far so good and when i'm in there the dogs like to lay on the floor and cool down

Surge protectors and power conditioners are a must but they don't prevent failures of power supplies caused by WAPA's failure to correctly control the frequency of the power delivered. The power WAPA delivers is over 60 hertz on STX. I don't know about STT.

In any case I have to reset my digital clocks once a week as they run fast. The over clocked power is tougher on power supplies, particularly the small black plug in transformers and battery chargers.

In past year I have had three of these wall warts fail.

I've had my computer with no a/c on the south (dryer) side of STT high up on a hill for maybe 4 years with no problems. I have a very good surge protector plus our condo generator stays on until WAPA comes back & stabilizes & that probably helps quite a bit.

The microwave I leave unplugged except when in use. They can really take a beating otherwise.
