J: Just a thought- check with your condo association. I am surprised to hear that there are any condos that don't have shutters. But, I'll bet someone has looked into it for the association.

Thanks for the info. Our unit doesn't have them. I guess it's done individually at Mahogany Run. I've looked in the yellow pages and called a few numbers. 🙂

StormKing gave us a quote. They're in STT.

There are different kinds of shutters and we requested estimates for both kinds: Panels, Accordion and roll-down. Rolldown and Accordion are more convenient and more expensive. Panels are easy to put up/take down but you also have to find a place to store them when they're not on the windows/doors. Also, we got estimates from 2 different suppliers/service providers (though only one supplier had the "panels").

Accordion - around $9000
Rolldown - around $14000
Panels - around $5000

Of course, the price will be affected by the size x # of windows & doors.

Those prices seem very high. After all the hurricanes we had last year here in FL, people panicked and rushed out to get these. I saw an article in the paper recently about doing it yourself. Apparently Home Depot has all the material and can tell you how to do it.

You might want to check with them. It could save you a lot of money.

Karl Gartner of Pro-Tekt does Hurrican Shutters and general construction. He said they are super busy installing this time of year, but give him a call at 340-715-1155.
