We just completed all the paperwork on our condo. And it's ours now. We are so excited! We are comming back down in August for two weeks. Fou thinking about making the plunge and getting a condo on STX. DO IT! The condos in STX are priced about the same or maybe a little lower than the ones here in the Phoenix, AZ area. But without the veiw.

Where did you guys buy your condo? Do you already have jobs lined up? My boyfriend found a job but I haven't yet so we're kind of undecided on what to do. Are you shipping cars down? We're from NJ.

Terry, congrats on your purchase! Linda and I will be joining you soon on STX as well, hopefully in August. We are in Colony Cove as soon as the house contract goes thru and Linda gets the medical go ahead. See you soon. Keep in touch.

We bought at Sapphire Village. We don't have jobs, hopefully it will not take too long. We're coming from Florida, and we are not going to take the car. We are shipping all our stuff by USPS, about 25 boxes, have about 12 already packed. Counting the days.

That sounds great. We bought our place at Mahogany run. We are also probably shipping via USPS since we're not bringing anything big - just music books and kitchen stuff. We are shipping one car. Are you planning on buying a car in STT? We are going to be looking for a used truck once we arrive.

Are you guys getting hurricane shutters? We are currently looking for someone to install them on our place.

Good Luck with Everything!!!

Terry and Annie,

Congratulations! I imagine with the beautiful weather we are having right now (113 degrees at Sky Harbor today) you are even more anxious to get back. 🙂

Yeah, isn't it great. Now the desert and homes in the north Scottsdale area are burning with wild fires. 30,000 acres and counting.

Terry & Annie,

Congratulations on the successful closing of your new home! I can't wait to have you both back to take personal possession of the condo. By that time, you will have a few more new neighbors at the complex, including Amanda & Jamie from the message board and another couple from California who have also lurked on the board now and then, Angela & Brian. With Mike & Linda just a couple miles up the beach, there should be some great newcomer housewarming parties to get everyone acquainted. August should be a fun time for all!

Congratulations again. Let me know if there is anything I can do to make your arrival go smoother.

Terry, congrads on closing. I know Susan & I dream of being at our condo almost every day, hell it is every day I think of the place. We'll just have to wait until retirement in a few years, but now was the time to buy!
Have loads of fun in August, we had a blast outfitting our place.

Are there any pet friendly condo's on STX? We have a 60 pound mudd and a cat. We also have 2 children under 4. We will be building on our lot but need a place in the meantime. We are not sure yet if we should rent or buy. Then after our place is build sell the condo. Also what are the condo's going for $

Bu-Bah....how did you go about transferring utilities, how long did it take etc. Am planning on coming down next month to "outfit" ours also.

We have some cleaning & sorting to do of things left by the current owner (they are leaving everything but their personal items). Gotta figure out what to do with that stuff since we will bringing new stuff down.

Nancy - when are ya'll moving down?

J - do you have the yellow pages...there are some numbers listed in there for hurrican shutters. We are contemplating doing the same thing at our Mahogany unit.

Also, our second bath only has sink/counter...no cabinet underneath. Any suggestions on who to use to have a cabinet intalled there?

Thanks.

Deb

Deb, I don't know how other condo complexes work, but at Queste Verde, where we bought, the complex pays the bill to the power & gas company for the whole place. We have meters on each unit & the management reads these each month & bills the owners at the same exact rate the utility company charges. So, we didn't have to transfer anything with any of the utility companies for electric or gas. Hope it works as easy for you.

Iris, Queste Verde allows only 1 pet under 20 lbs. It was hard to find a condo complex that does allow pets. If I remember right St C by the Sea allows pets also, don't know how many or poundage. Price range for both places was around $70,000 to $125,000 or so when we were buying last winter. Have you looked on GoToStCroix.com? They have a nice link to the realtors on the island with good info, we liked the "Buyers Agent" page best, it had more info than some of the others, I believe it says pets ok or not. Also has a great webcam that I like to peak at at work & dream about us being down at STX sippin' a cold one at the Brew Pub along the boardwalk!!!

Bu-Bah, thanks for the reply. I believe our water/gas is on our HOA bill (from the copy that I have) but electric is WAPA. I'm waiting to hopefully get all the vendors that the Seller is using currently via our realtor. It sounds like the best thing is for us to either get them to agree to not cut it off till I get it transferred or get down there for closing and do it all that day. Thanks again!

Deb,
What complex did you buy your condo at? If you are on St. Croix, you can call Doug Thompson at 340-277-5040 to get an estimate on new cabinets for your bathroom and/or kitchen. His cabinet shop is in Little Princesse across from Food Town. Tell him I sent you.

Alexandra,

Thanks for responding and for the info. Unfortunately we are on STT, Mahogany Run. I was thinking maybe Home Depot? I also printed off the special "Tropical Homes" report from the Daily News online and it has a wealth of info in it. There was great article on "A Better Counter", a lady who does custom counters and cabinets.
