Thanks for all the good wishes, folks! I got a job selling cable for Direct TV. (Islander forgive me - don't delete me!). So any questions, input, problems you have had, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Direct TV - cable .... yep, funny they expect you to work for your money. I figure 5,000 people lost cable a month ago ... surely there are still a few hundred like me who haven't found anything yet. I really didn't want Innovative and wasn't able to get a straight answer on Direct or Dish network. So, actually I am my first customer! Awesome as dear hubby and I have been jonesing for the news!

I figure set up a few meetings with some of the property managers, etc. and it should pay the bills until charter season next year.

Easier than getting a real job - although I would have taken a real job if it had come my way. I've lived here 15 years and this is the toughest job market I have ever seen. Before I always knew someone who knew someone who needed someone. This year it is no, sorry we are laying off or closing for the summer or the like.

Wouldn't selling DirecTV be selling satellite not cable? And aren't you selling DirecTV Latin America not the DirecTV from the states?

ok, go get all technical on me ... satellite tv then. Direct TVPR. Price seems right compared to what I was paying for it from Choice. Installation is free but slooooooooow. Oh well, she sighed, it works and I need a job. I take it you are not a fan?

I am a big fan of satellite tv. I have had Dish Network for over 10 years on STX. The same Dish Network that you get in the states.

I have 11 dishes total ranging from 16ft in diameter down to 1m. It's one of my hobbies.

Dish Network requires either a 1.4m or 1.8m dish and DirecTV requires a 1m dish.

cool - thanks all and rotorhead. Interested in any and all information that can help. I've been a salesman all my life more or less and knowledge is power. What do you do with a 16' dish I must ask?

I have a 16' dish and a 12' dish for C-Band satellite. The small dishes are only good for Ku-Band. C-Band is what the TV programming providers use to get programming out to their affiliates.

Congrats. I hope DirecTV LA does better than AlphaStar and SkyVista. They were the last providers who used 1m dishes and only offered a limited selection of channels. Most of my 1m dishes are surplus from their customers.

I have a lovely birdbath that was an Alphastar dish that I bought into after Marilynn when cable was a far off reality.

I noticed all the signs on STT. as well. I wonder if they are paying for or have permission to put signs along the side of the road.

You need permission from Public Works to post signs.

Just posting info Queen. Figure people want to know.

Pamela,
I apologize for "tainting" your thread of good news. I wish you the best and have always enjoyed your posts.
Good luck!

Time will tell if they improve the customer service they are currently lacking. Speaking for STX only. Maybe they are doing better on STT? STJ?

OK,if it`s ok for me to ask, regarding Direct TV what is the installation fee/box purchase/deposit/basic/intermediate, bad ass service w& w/O internet(if avail)monthly fees(including the yada yadas)?
I agreed to a package Innovative deal & I`m 3 months into it,but I`ll be looking in 9 months...

I find the proliferation of the Direct TV signs to be an ugly and visually disturbing media campaign - whether they have permission or not.
It reminds me of the loudspeaker trucks that drive around blaring slogans during the political campaigns - it is a certain way for a candidate to lose my vote.

Wow fellas ... didn't mean to start a satellite tv war. Perhaps the Sahara dust has us all a little testy?

I appreciate the insight into the customer service, long wait times for installation, etc. and will work with the company to see if we can fix the problems. Thank each of you for the postive insight. Dun, I will pm you.
