I called Tropical Shipping today to get some estimated costs for a 20ft and 40ft container. Thought someone might be curious and if anyone has any experiences or knowledge of other shipper's costs, I'm all ears.

"Transloaded" (we take it to West Palm and load it)

20ft = $2,781

40ft = $4,302

They pick up from zip code 33614

20ft = $3,256

40ft = $4,602

There will be additional fees / costs as with our past experience with Tropical. Meaning, they will charge us for insurance which will likely be around $800. There are other processing fees as well. I think, by the time we get done the end $$ will be between $4000 and $6000 depending on if we get 20ft or 40ft and depending on if we have them bring the container to our home (they give you 2 hours to load it otherwise the money clock starts ticking).

Is there a surcharge on weight or duty on value of contents?

They COULD charge for duty/customs and likely will. How much depends $ on a lot of factors. How much and what information you give them, what kind of a mood they're in, competence of the person you're dealing with to get your stuff out of Customs "prison", etc.
