Not to continue to flog a dead horse, but...

Are there any statistics involving criminal acts committed against moored / anchored boats in and around the V.I.? (not those docked in a marina).

Full time boat residents: What do you keep on board for protection? Pistol? Flare Gun? Radio or Cell Phone?

Jay,
Break ins on live aboards - anchored or moored - as less frequent than you would think. Use some common sense and lock the boat when you are not there. Close the hatches. Etc.
An informal survey will show most boat owners are armed in some fashion. In any event, a flare in the proper body part will HURT! A VHF radio is a must for any vessel. A cell phone is becoming more and more popular.
Down island is a different story. There are pirates in the caribbean.

Thanks Pam,

I was thinking more along the lines of a armed invasion than a burglery. A Pit Bull w/sealegs like Novanut mentioned sounds like the start of a good security system. 🙂

Any dog would do. For some reason bad guys and girls are afraid of dogs. I lived in Florida and had a toy poodle at that time. All the units around me where broken into. I was the only one with a dog and did not get burclarised (sp).

You can also get a small boat safe. Locking up the boat is key.

Sorry, Jay, but for the full scale armed invasion you have to be down past Venezuela or in the Med .....

I have motored past many, many boats at anchor or on moring balls, no one home, and the boat is wide open. My mother-in-law lives on her sailboat, and I've never seen it locked up.

Hmmm....maybe that can be a new career for me? Float-by B&E's! Haha! J/K!

Or you could just leave the dead, flogged horse on board. Stench would keep those blue meanies away.

RE: Pit Bull w/sealegs, be sure and keep plenty of *Drama-Mean* on hand for those special occasions...

OK, Novanut...I have to think of SOMETHING to say! Umm....OK, the stench might keep the blue meanies away...but it would probably draw the seagulls, laughin gulls and pelicans for miles around! That'll give the Pitbull something to do! haha!
