hmmmm, I make half that and I am doing fine on STJ.
You will have to adjust your lifestyle a little because the cost of living in the usvi is high kind of like NY city. If you cant make it on that, you need to take a money management course.

Brian,
As already stated, it depends on what your expenses are. If you already have debts (like my grad school loan) eating into your salary, that would be something to consider. I think Chris is correct that cost of living is comparable to NY. For example, my hubby and I can spend $80-100 on a moderate dinner without bells and whistles. Of course, we drink like fish... My apt. is cheaper than it was in SF, now we only pay $1000. Also, is your anticipated salary just to cover your expenses, or are you bringing dependents? I think you should be OK, but draw up a current budget for yourself and figure in rents and food specific to the VI.

It is all about how much you spend on housing. There are limited ways to spend consumer income even though certain things might be more expensive than the states. But houses are another thing.. If you buy a nice villa on St John it might cost you $800,000 . That works out to a financed cost and expenses of maybe $70,000 per year. If you rent a real nice villa, you might get one for about $50,000 per year. ($4000 per month) Ok..that's way too much on your income. You can rent something that is ok (a condo or apartment) for maybe $25,000 per year. Your car will cost you more, your food and clothes will cost you more... so on. Yeh ..you can live nicely on $70,000 per year here if you don't buy jewelry or have a major drug habit.
