Hi my wife and I were down to st croix on vacation last year and we started thinking of moving to the islands. I am in insurance, what i am wondering is if there is a need for more agents on st x. I would hate to step on anyones toes by coming down and opening an office.

Does the majority of the people down there work with an agent or over the net, telephone ect.
Thanks much for taking the time to reply
Bill

You might want to contact the Lt Governor's office for Banking and Insurance. One thing about insurance here is that the company has to be licensed (?) by the territory. It must be a pain, because there isn't much competition in the industry. For health insurance, there are about 4 choices. Same in other areas.

What about agents to sell the products of the companys that are already licensed, are there many of those? I have been a part of a sucessful agency since I was 18 and first got licensed. I am realy wondering if the people down there would benefit from my 14 years of experiance in this buisness.

If your realy interested in insurance as a proffesion down there, you might be better off on St Thomas. I think it is a little bit more Buisness than St X.....

There are similar populations on STT and STX, which would likely mean a similar amount of insurance business available on each island. There are likely more insurance agents and companies in existence on STT, which would make each agent's percentage on STX a little larger piece of the total.

My main concern is leaving an agency where I make 55-60k a year , moving 3000 miles away from every thing I know and then having a hard time finding companies and clients. I know 55 to 60 k doesn't sound like a lot of money to some people, but I dont live a extravegant life. I have simple needs. My main question has to be what does the average agent make down there., And yes I have read the wage analysis on this web site.
Any ideas or estimates anyone?
Another area I have been thinking about getting into is realty appraisals. I have an inlaw who does that up here. What is the requirements to become an appraiser in the usvi.
Thanks everyone
