I don't think there is a "lack of communication " about political issues anywhere in the VI - all those topics and more are discussed, argued about and are a daily focus of many residents conversations here in the VI - news reporting has never been a strong point here - and demands by citizens are not a common response at all except for some local union demonstrations on occasion - but loud, argumentative, informed and uninformed opinions stated,' -- facts' thrown about like birdseed, -- types of communication seem to be an innate part of any gathering of 2 or more Virgin Islanders - fueled by rum, punctuated with laughter and many "fo tru mehsons", there is rarely a lack of communication around here. IMO

The print media in the VI, specifically the Daily Nuisance and The Worst aka Source are complete joke. This is some of the laziest journalism that I have ever seen. News organizations in the VI basically receive press releases from the govt agencies and just reread/reprint them to us. Hardly will we ever see or hear any other sides to a story. We get whatever the govt tells us. These news organizations serve no purpose.

Check the VIPD website for example and if you read the press releases, they are reprinted verbatim in the Daily Nuisance and The Worst.

Also, many of these govt agencies have former reporters working as their public relations person and thus shaping the news as they please; former reporters like Jean Greaux in Govt House, Melody Rames at VIPD, Sara Lezama at Justice, and the list goes on.....

Control the media, control the people.......

Channel 8 gives some (lame) reporting and occasional follow up however it seems the bug stuff is just glossed over and we hear about all the fluff. The channel is a bit better or about the same. What I do is look at the Source online, the Daily News online, friended senators, VIPD and some hooked up people on Facebook and kind of assimilate all the info into what may have really happened. From my perspective most of the people I am involved with could give a flying f@%k what is happening. A daily detailed police and court log would help so would more press releases from the government in general. The coconut telegraph is still the best source of late breaking news, most of the radio stations just bla bla bla the same stories for 3 days in a row. There seems like there is an opportunity but who would want to pursue it?
This forum used to be a source of some good community and political info but the posters were brow beaten for bringing up unpopular subject matter (reality) and faded away. Just my perspective.

The press releases from the government are disguised as articles in the Daily Nuisance and the online Worst.
