My cable stopped working sometime today. Did anyone else on STX lose their service today? It could be because I didn't switch to EVO yet...perhaps the day of reckoning has arrived.

thanks speee1dy.....yeah I have an appointment for Feb 28 to switch to EVO.

Customer service wouldn't tell me over the phone if my outage was due to them cutting off the old service and mine not working since I had not switched. I don't know why they wouldn't tell me, as I am sure they know, or can find out easily whether old service was cut to my area. All she told me was that they are not making repairs to the old service and I have to switch to EVO now.

I like to keep a land line as a backup phone, which is why I have stayed with Innovative.

I hope I don't have the same problems with the EVO box that others have reported.

Do yourself a favor - Request the new EVO box or you will have continue
to have problems, especially when power goes off.
They do have some new ones available.

Hah just called customer service and asked for a new box, not the old box. She told me they are only installing the new box. Hopefully that is the case.

Alana, what does the old box look like vs. the new box? How will I know which they are installing and whether the customer service rep was bullshi**ing me?

Can't tell you as never had the new box before I returned the old one and transferred my phone number to AT&T and closed my Innovative account.
The old box NEVER worked for the phone line when power was out, even with a new battery.

Had Dish TV so don't know how it interacted with cable but I'd assume if phone didn't work, the cable would be out as well. Don't really know.

And you may as well toss out any plug directly into wall phones as they no longer work with the EVO boxes/so called upgrades. If power is out and box doesn't work, that's no longer an option. Which is unfortunate.

i hate all the so called innovations these days. when the power is out for an extended period of time, there will be no land line phone service. cell towers will be out.

I agree.
Plus, with all the added weight on the poles with the new cable/phone lines, when they do go down, it's going to be "awhile" before they can be restored.

Yep Spee1dy and Alana, that is why I stayed with Innovative so long, to have the old plug in the wall phone as a backup. I know it will no longer work in a power outage, which sucks, and which is why I have waited to switch. Meanwhile the business manager at Innovative, when I asked her months ago, claimed that the old plug in the wall phone would still work and I told her that everyone said they weren't working anymore.

I found the email from Innovative's program manager (when I emailed her to ask if the old plug in the wall landline phone will still work during a power outage:

As our technology changes we try to educate our customers to avoid any misconceptions of the service, our technology is the same as those use by Verizon and AT&T on the mainland. You will still be able to use your landline phone on the HFC network. The cable modem which will now provide telephone service as a port for the telephone. Although the cable modem does need power the device comes equipped with a backup battery power supply which can last up to 8 hours in the event a power outage occurs
