I work at that hospital and the police presence now is formidable. (of course it's after the fact). I believe that shooting was indeed bad guy on bad guy and they did no harm to anyone else (except tie up the security guard!) The entrance doors are guarded now and the ER waiting room door was locked when I left last night. I feel safe working here, but the parking lots are poorly lighted at night and leaving presents a risk. I am writing an article to the AVIS asking for a relaxation of the concealed carry laws here as did the folks in Maryland--one of only 3 states with a higher violent crime rate than the Islands. If more honest citizens took up the responsibility to protect themselves and their loved ones, the crime rate would go down.

I am in healthcare, won't be working in the hospital. But, yes I knew about that incident. BUT, when I was working in California this past year at the hospital I worked at an employee got carjacked in the employee lot 500yards from the ER door where theres lots of traffic and the hospital uses actual county deputies as their security, This was in broad daylight, 3pm. Alaska, gunman walked into the ER and started shooting to get at a gang member. Maryland, in the shock trauma unit, guns and viloence almost every day, always someone trying to get in to kill someone whos a patient. Always the bad guys. Same hospital, credit union in the lobby got robbed at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon. Did I feel safe all of these places, yes I did. I am aware of my surroundings and use common sense. Theres crime everywhere you go unfortunately. You can't let what might happen keep you from living. Do I ever want to be the victim, of course not, but I wont' stop living my life due to fear.
