I haven't received my bill this month and through not thrilled to get it, I am anxious to see what it will be. Especially wanted my bro-in-law to see it while he is here NOT observing my curbing usages!!! He leaves tomorrow and mail has already run today.

They were just doing west end readings today, so those bills would be a few days out I would think. My last bill said they will read my meter tomorrow... not holding my breath since they have not read it in the three months I have been here. Suddenly I will be hit with a huge bill. Sat here for two days, with gate open, last month waiting for meter reader who never showed. Was told by my exterminator that he saw them all at the Christmas Festival and no way they would be out to read the meter. Nice huh? I should send them a bill for my lost time sitting here waiting.

I would make sure they are actually reading the meter!
We moved out of a house recently, where they always "estimated" the meter reading.
We only found out after months. We would be so careful and hardly use anything, and still get a big bill.

We could not do much about it, because Wapa was in the landlords name....

Luckily we were on a month to month....

How do you know when they are estimating your usage?

Just asking.

You don't have to wait for your bill to see roughly how high it will be. Just read your meter weekly and do some math. I'm conveniently ignoring estimated bills and varying end-of-month dates.

I, too sat here all day on meter reading day and they were a no-show. I sat the whole day at my desk at front of house. I live on a gravel cul-de-sac and we here every single vehicle that turns on our road with on 4houses on it. Geez, ours went from $358 to $624.04 this month and I seriously curb usage. This is insane. Maybe when everyone gets a high enough bill, we can then come together and get someone to help us do something about it.

I lease, but, at this rate I could invest in solar and it would pay for itself way before my lease is up!!!

Thought you all might like this:
It was published in Letters to Editor in the Daily Snooze.

Ode to the LEAC ( WAPA's Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause)
Published: October 3, 2012

Back to dry wood and coal pot,
No more microwave to make your food hot,
Wash board to scrub your clothes,
Hang them out and they'll dry as the wind blows
Minus the wash and dryer
Will keep your WAPA bill from getting higher.
Kerosene lamp and candles instead of flipping on the light,
Don't let LEAC keep you from seeing in the dark of night.
The ironing goose will make your clothes wrinkle free,
After all, hot coals do not generate electricity.
Wash pan will replace your shower
Cold water only, to draw less power.
It'll be hot as hell, but sorry, no fans or A/C
This will save you a whole lot of money.
The toilet has become a luxury, because with every flush
The pump kicks in, in an electrical rush,
I suggest that what we do
Is build an outhouse to resolve this issue
There will be no LEAC due
And it'll take care of number one and number two.
WAPA's constantly rising charges have barreled out of control.
Our quality of living has depleted, yet WAPA still ransoms our soul.
Get rid of the sound system, Xbox and the TV,
Along with the DVD player, Cable and the Wii.
Send the kids outside to play; they'll be just fine,
There is no LEAC involved, in a little fresh air and sunshine.
The Levelized Energy Adjustment Clause
Literally means that small business must draw straws:
Where to cut back and how many employees they can afford to keep.
As the LEAC rises, they are in debt, neck deep
We have to live frugally, because WAPA is an unbridled mess.
With no end to rising LEAC in sight, we're at the stage
That in order to survive, we must revert to the Stone Age.
- Linda Quetel, St. Thomas

did you read the article in the avis?? Wapa denies everything the report ( can't remember the name of the agency ) states. don't remember everything the article said, but you need to read it.
The government, are they trying to clear out the islands?? They are driving people away, businesses shutting down. I just don't get it.

Looking at past bills, the reading was always a round number 900 or 1000KW. Even when we'd be gone for 3 weeks, it was still the same...

I've heard from friends here, that on the old bill there used to be an E, I think on the bottom, meaning it had been estimated. It is a common practice I was told, even stateside.

Check your meter and see, if it is electronic (new) they can read/scan it from a small distance. I think that is not the majority here tho.

If the bill is in your name, ask Wapa to come check the meter, and have it replaced if possible.

I have also heard from people who argued their reading with Wapa , who were payed a credit...

Thanks Picflores. Our meter is where it is impossible to read without coming down our road.

Yes, read that article this morning. PSC is the agency. I' believe them over WAPA any day. We need someone to come in here and take charge!

Ours doubled from the previous month, and we were off island both months!
I had the condo main. manager check to see if the new fridge was maybe giving trouble, working fine.
The condo Assoc. is asking WAPA to come read the meter again.
