I was wondering if anyone knew of any good take out (or eat-in for that matter) Chinese or Thai food on this island? I know that I'm probably out of luck, but I thought this would be the best place to check. And while we're on the subject, could you guys give me any good places that have late night take out or are open really late. I know shipwreck serves til 4am. Anywhere else?

The Great Wall in Havensight is pretty good. I have had their chicken low mein and General Tso Chicken. Both were pretty good.

No Thai. As much as we all have moaned and begged on this forum no entrepeneur has taken us up on our hints and opened a Thai (or Indian) rest. yet.

Chinese--when I get desperate I buy takeout from the one on waterfront next to the Holiday Inn and the Dry Cleaners. Not perfect but decent. And they are really nice people too.

I have a child and no social life so I have no clue about late night.

Yeah Great Wall in Havensight is a good spot. For take out, I go to the Wok Express in the Nisky Center in Sub base. Another decent on is the place in Red Hook. I think it's call Wok and Roll, not sure though.

As far as late night eats, you have Shipwreck, Caribbean Saloon (also open till 4am) and if you're really desperate, the Esso downtown and the Esso in Tutu serve Pizza and Chicken late night, and that's some good eaten' when you've got the craving that late at night.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I ended up going to the Great Wall that night and it was good, not amazing, but good enough when you're craving Chinese take-out. Bummer on the Thai though.

Cory, I have yet to try those trucks that sell chicken late at night, they seem a little sketchy but smell delicious. I'm sure one night when I've have had enough to drink and do try one of em out, I'll love it!

Yeah most of the mobile eats are great, my issue is the clientele hanging around them when I see them at night keeps me away.

The Esso's have been a Godsend for me on several occasions. Their pizzas are decent and the chicken good. I like the potato wedges as well. As far as mobile eats, I don't do any unless my bf takes me. I do as the local does. 🙂 I do eat Texas BBQ on the waterfront but I think it's only open until 10.
