Hi,

My name is Julien and currently living in Los Angeles.
I graduated from Law School last year and currently working at Los Angeles downtown law firm. I'm seriously considering relocation to USVI permanently. I'd like to send some resume to law firms in STT before the PMV (which will be in May). I have printed out yellow pages "attorney" section. My question is -- should I just mass mail my resume to those firms listed in yellow pages OR is there any classified paper available? What was your approach? Any recommendation? Your input would be greately appreciated!!! (.)

p.s. One more question -- I couldn't find Zipcode in yellow pages address section. I noticed that some area in STT is 00804 and the other is 00802. Would USPS deliver the mail to STT without zipcode? If not, how can I find out the zipcode?

Thanks a million~~~ *.* See you guys in May~

Julien.

Be aware that you'll have to take and pass the Bar all over again in the USVI ... just what you wanted to hear!

Yes, I do aware of that. In fact, I'm planning to take the USVI bar in this coming July. Can anyone still answer my question about sending the resume?

Thank you~

Jules

While this doesn’t really answer your question, you might find it helpful...I often see ads in the classifieds seeking attorneys under the employment section of http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/. Today there is a listing that states, “ATTORNEY. General practice law firm seeks attorney for associate or of-counsel position. Member of V.I. Bar with ligation experience preferred. Fax or email resume in confidence to Watts, Benham & Sprehn, P.C., fax 776-3630; jhbenham@wattsbenham.com. Last week, I saw an ad for an attorney, but it was a different law firm (don't remember the name of the firm). Since attorneys are occasionally sought in these classifieds, you may want to look at them every now and then. Sorry, I cannot answer your questions more directly; hopefully, someone on this board can.

I'm not so sure that mass mailing your resume will get you too far for a variety of reasons, but I would suggest that you try to reach some of the larger law practices by telephone or 'fax and simply ask them if they would be interested in seeing your resume and, if the answer is in the affirmative, ask them to whom it should be addressed. Then write an accompanying personal letter with more details, including why you're interested in working in the VI.

I always thought a resume with a coverletter printed out on nice watermarked paper was the way to go. Know who you are sending resumes too is also important. Inform yourself about the firm and what kind of work they do. There is nothing more anoying than getting resumes from people who did not take the time to read up on my company. I would pick 5-10 firms and do my homework. If you want to save some time call and see if they are hiring. I find faxed resumes and e-mail resumes not proffessional unless they are specificallu requested in that format. I get so many e-mail resume where the sender does not even address me by name. They go right into the trash. If you don't have the respect to address me correctly I do not see why I should waste my time responding. I believe in professional prosition that is even more important. After all you are in the people business. Comunication is a very important skill. If you want to make a good first impression do it right. People on the Islands are very propper and a ted old fashion.

Zip codes on St Thomas:
00801: for P.O. boxes in Sugar Estate post office (and Havensight, I think)
00802: for those who have home/office delivery (most DO NOT)
00803: Frenchtown post office
00804: downtown post office
00805: Tutu Park

So, you need to know where they get their mail, probably call and ask!
