Teresa:
I know that you shipped in a car and I believe it was brand new. If I may ask, how much did you pay after shipping, personal use tax (4%), customs (3.5%), road tax, etc? We're looking at a $10K difference between Miami quotes and local quotes for the vehicle we want. I just need to get an idea of how much it would cost to bring one in.
If anyone else has the answer to this specific question, please share.
Thanks!

Onika,

Hi and how are you! Our cost for shipping (for truck only) was the following:

$900/shipping
$350/brokerage fees (we hired them to take care of everything and deliver truck to us - we didn't want to deal with customs nor the DMV)
$701.76/road tax ($.16 per pound - our truck weighed 4,386 pounds - the weight should be easily obtainable thru the dealer)
$991/personal use tax (4% of the value of the car - not what you pay for it - I think they use Kelly Blue Book value)
$130/DMV title and registration fee

Sorry to reply so late. I am moving to a new apartment this week and just now able to get online.

We used Lee at Managed Freight for shipping our truck, and his contact info is at www.managedfreight.com For us, even with shipping expenses, the truck was cheaper than buying it on island. I don't think it will work out this way everytime, but worth looking into.

Hi Teresa,
Was your truck domestic or foreign?

Hey Teresa!
We actually found an amazing deal on an essentially new Grand Vitara, so I won't be shipping a car this time around.
Congrats on moving into a new home. I hope this one allows you to have the doggy you wanted?

Dave, I shipped a domestic vehicle.

Onika, Congrats on the good deal. Waiting on shipping can be a headache. Yes, we love our new home and will soon be looking for a puppy. We want a chocolate lab. They are good with kids and protective too. I hope your garden is growing. I might actually have a spot of land to start my own.
