JOBS IN THE MEDICAL FIELD

I have been passing out resumes to local Dr offices and the lab. I have not gotten any decent "review" from any of them. I understand the hesitancy of hiring someone who may have the possiblity of leaving in a few months, but really just want something very part time,fill-in type work. Also I understand how native Cruzans'don't want to "involove" white people into their place of business. It's so difficult because when I tell people that I am in the medical field, they say "oh,we need people like you!" and yet I am not given the time of day. Now,without starting WWIII what do I do now?

Maybe there's nothing currently available? You might have to try out waitressing or something along those lines until an opening does happen.

I'm on STX,I will keep at it. I'm not desperate yet and really am just looking for part time.-Trade I actually LOVE waitressing I did it for years, and here's a cliche that 's how I met my "husband",I can't do it ,may be on a 'good' day for a few hours. I have a disability that affects my mobility on some days(I hate putting that out here guys,I choose not to elaborate.) so I will continue to visit the offices that I wouldlike to work in and make it clear that I want very part-time on call type of work. Thankyou guys,I really just wantd to make sure there wasn't some sort of secret hand shake or code I needed to get into these people, unfortunatley I left my decoder ring home.

What kind of job in the medical field? Obviously you are looking for an office job? Dentistry, Eye Doctors?, Veterinary? Are you a Doctor yourself? Are you a nurse? Pharmacy? Have you contacted Continuum Care (hospice biz on island).... You never really say what you are qualified to do and I know I could offer suggestions of where to try if I knew better what you wanted to do.

But... don't give up. Are you going office to office? Are you talking to the Dr.'s or leaving resumes with the staff? Have you met any people in the industry?

Also Stephanie, there are plenty of "native Cruzians" who are white.

I know there are native cruzans who are white, but try to tell "them" that! My back ground was founded here too. As for limetime2 I was trying not to give much info on purpose. I love clinical work, bringing patients back, drawing blood is what I REALLY like doing,I like working with older people, meaning not pediactrics. I am a CMA (AAMA) aka.Certified Medical Assistant the credientials at the end mean I am with the national board of certification which puts me at a higher level than simply "graduating" an accredited class. I am so happy that people have taken an interest in my quesitons,I don't want to "save the world" but I want to make a difference,I know that sounds cheesy but I really feel like if someone who was in a position that could make a difference I want to too. I feel it,ok so, I know most it co-dependancy but stil....

Keep trying. You'll find something. There are at least two labs on island... the big one at Sunny Isle and the smaller one at Beeston HIll. They sound like place you'd like to work. I think you should call continuem care also.. they are a fairly new service on island, based in F'sted I think but serving the whole island. Hospice is not for everyone but is much needed here and I'm so glad they offer the services they do. I met the owners once and they are a very nice couple. Goog luck to you Stephaniev.! 🙂

Finding a job does take time here, no question. You may need to take any job at first, just to get "in the door". It is easier to find a job when you have a job. Also, the price of fuel has affected everyone. And it is slow season, so just because you are in a field that is needed, it doesn't necessarily mean you can be afforded.

Another factor to consider is how long you are staying on island. Especially in professional positions, employers are hesitant to hire and train someone who will be gone before Christmas. If your plan is only to stay for a short time, maybe something in the service industry would be more practical.

May I suggest you submitting your resume to the Beeston Hill Rehab Center. I know for a fact that they are always looking for front desk people, especially part time and to fill in for vaca and sick hours. They are open 7-7, M W F, and then 7-3, T and Thu - with only 2 girls to fill the shifts. It seems they have a problem finding qualified people. Do you have any qualifications with insurance billing, I also understand they are short staffed there too.

Perhaps the issue is that you only want a part-time job. I would guess that most positions would be for full-time.

thanks snapper! I will definatley check there. Yes,I do have insurance billing expirence(although very little) I did alot of insurance pre-auths for pt. procedures,I took 1.5 years of medical office coding and billing-decided I didn't like that so much but I could do it on short shift type place.
