So I have decided to just pack up and move to St. Thomas. It's always been a dream of mine and I'm not getting any younger. One of my best friends did it back in the 90's and loved it. Any insight on taking the leap would be appreciated. Finding a place to live, getting a job, etc... I will have around ten grand when I leave so money shouldn't be a problem for a little while. Thanks!

Check the Classified section on this forum (click on Forum List above.) What kind of work do you do? Children involved?

You'll have some adapting to do because the island won't adapt to you. Stock up on patience! 🙂

No I'm single and have no children. I've been in sales for about 5 years and I have bartended and managed a golf course in the past.

That sounds pretty good for here. Don't rent anything sight unseen. You could stay at a place like Villa Fairview until you get a job & decide which part of the island you'd like to live in.

Hi,
Sounds like you're not a kid, you have some very marketable skills for here, and you have cash. Perfect! Just out of curiousity, why St. Thomas? Where is the friend you mentioned, now? Did he/she make it a permanent move?

I am a fan of Red Hook (east end), and for bartending jobs, it's the best. Sales would be downtown, most likely, but not exclusively. There is only one golf course, Mahogany Run, on the northside. With a solid resume, your experience will qualify you for lots of other things, as well.

When is the big leap?

I heading down the first of April. I'm finishing out my current employment contract. My friend was only down there a little over two years. He bartended at a beach bar on Sapphire Beach. He came back and went to law school. I chose St. thomas because I have visited once and loved it. And I like the fact that I won't need a green card. I'm only 26 And Have 3 years of college and a lot of experience in the work force as well as management experience. I can't wait. My friends can't believe I'm doing it but I've never had a problem making new ones. Especially in a paradise.

Yes I'm 12 hours away from my degree so really it's three and a half years. I can finish in two months during the summer if I ever decide to go back.
