hello, I'm planning to move to the islands in october. I'm planning on staying in a place called the villa fairview on st. tom for the first month while i settle in. I'm hoping to end up on st. jon and I'm wondering how hard that might be to do. I'm a bartender, and hoping to do the same when I arive. I've heard that st jon has more resorts and bars on it. I was wondering how hard it is to go back and forth between tom and jon, and how much does it cost to ride the ferry, and how hard is it to get a bar job? I've heard october is a good time to find such jobs, just before the toorist season. Any help that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Commuting between St. Thomas and St. John is an option. You can get a commuter booklet of tickets which works out as a savings rather then buying a ticket each day... the tickets are $6 rt from Red Hook and $14 from Charlotte Amalie... get the passbook if you are making the trip daily.

St. John has fewer resorts and bars then St. Thomas. St. John is about 3/4 National Park so is less developed but there are certainly numerous restaurants you can try looking for a bartending job at.... if you are living on St. Thomas though you should also look on St. Thomas for work, that way you keep options open.

Season starts around late November... October is just between our really slow September month and the start of season.

Good Luck.
