what is the deal with KC people moving to the islands anyways?:)
who are the two couples left?
Did you have a hard time finding housing? We want to rent a house that "God Help us" will accept two medium size dogs...We were going to buy, but decided to see if it all pans out...

Hey Kellymac,
Travelwoman and her husband are one couple going to STX and my husband (Les) and I going to STJ, are the two remaining couples 🙂
Currently we are in Nashville driving our car to be shipped to STT, have to have it in West Palm Beach by Friday,no later than 2pm. We left today at 12:30 and drove for 10 1/2 hours 🙁 but still have a ways to go - trying to make it to Orlando tomorrow, and are guessing about 12 hours of drive time Yuk !!!! Anyway we can all get together if you want later in the month and chat about leaving good old KC and our plans for moving - wow that winter seemed to go on forever this year. Anyway we may not have internet access tomorrow so I'll check the board when we get home Saturday evening. Happy planning - by the way when are you moving? and what Island - I think it's STT.

Greetings Kellymac!
I just arrived from KC last week Thursday. Have rented a condo at Palm Gardens and moved in last Monday (on top of many other things during the week like opening my mortgage office). I don't believe many rentals allow dogs, but often let you "sneak" in cats. I'll ask around, and if I can find anything I'll let you know.
Regards,
"Island Ed"

What is the deal with all these KC people??? My wife and I tried to move to St. John last year and just couldn't find the right place. We are now back to accepting the fact that we cannot do it right now. with all the storms we had yesterday and the humidity level as high as it was the remark was made" feels like St. John weather around here!". Miss the island but nothing we can do until December 9th!!!!

It is amazing that a little pocket of KCityians have all found purpose in life by moving to the VIs. Our plans were interrupted by a medical emergency with Linda (travelwoman), but we are still on track to make our way down to STX. She's doing well, by the way, and is recouping well from recent surgery.

Edgar, glad to hear you are getting settled. Kelleymac, when Piaa and Les get back from their most recent trip to STJ, we talked about getting together on the Plaza, perhaps for lunch when it's not storming, for wine and island talk. Hope you can join us.

Les, did you find a PU truck to your liking?

Mike

would love to get together and exchange ideas and plans...we used to live in Brookside, but now live at Lake Lotawana. Desperately trying to sell our house so we can get to the islands. I haven't been checking the board lately, but I appreciate all the responses. I am now approaching my second trimester so hopefully I will feel better. Will check more often. Still stressed about finding housing in St. Thomas with two dogs, finding a few kids to watch so I can stay home with mine, and finally, leaving my family. I have decided to ship my car over though...everything else gets sold.

Hey Kellymac,
You can pm me, or just post, it would be great to get together. We leave Tues 24th for STJ and return on the 31st, so anytime after that would be great. We made it in fine time to West Palm Beach to ship the car, and all we can do now is pray that it gets on the ship Wednesday (its a space available thing) or it will probably be next Wed as we were told there is no chance of it being on the Friday ship, it will be great if it is available for us when we are there next week. Hopefully Travelwoman is also reading the board and maybe we could all get together soon. Good luck selling your house.

Yes, Mike and I are keeping up on the boards - although a little bit green with envy that you, Les, and Edgar are there while we are still in KC. My surgery went very well, and recuperation is going excellent. We are suppose to get an offer on our house tomorrow - if its not in our ballpark, then on to a realtor!
Kellymac - please DO join us. We are a fun (USVI loving group) who would love to include you. We all have the dream, and its been helpful and interesting to see how we are all going about the same thing in little bit different ways. Keep in touch, everyone!

Hey Travelwoman,
Congratulations, I am so pleased that all is going well with you 🙂
Good luck with your house, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Les and I return the day after memorial day so anytime after that - as long as you are feeling up to it - will be great to get together. Looking forward to meeting Keyymac and her husband. Talk to you soon

Hello Travelwoman,
Glad to hear everything went well for you. Recuperate quickly so we can see you soon. I've been busy here and will try to get the family out here by months end. We're going to have a moving sale in KC and then it is off to the airport for the family. I think we will buy a used car here rather than ship one. The little suzuki's and trackers are plentiful here, and with a little shopping, you can get a good price. So far, I haven't missed the things I left behind, so why ship them. We have had our fair share of rain the last few days, but Magens Bay was beautiful over the weekend (aren't ya jealous...lol).Greetings to Piaa, Mike, Les, Kellymac and all. Stay in touch!

Hey Edgar,
Glad you are having fun 🙂 Good luck with your garage sale, we had one and sold all our worldly possessions (ok, maybe not all but close) and so we are only shipping a few things. Les and I arrive next Wed so let us know if we can get together to say hi. Talk to you soon

Hello All,

I wish I had brought more Chiefs and Royals clothing when in K.C. Everytime I wear them I find more Kansas Citians on STT. I met a waiter from Tonganoxie, KS who has lived here about four years. He said that the owners of Delly Deck were Kansas Citians. Not completely sure about that, but it is always fun to run into people from K.C. I met a tourist today that grew up in Hawaii and now lives in K.C. She is discovering what it is like to be landlocked. 🙂 Can't wait to see your faces at the get togethers on island! Travelwoman, good to hear that you are doing okay. Get well soon, as they say, and we will see you again soon!

Hey Piaa,
Don't you mean you sold all your possessions that wouldn't fit in a 20' container?!! LOL For sure let's get together. Get settled in a bit, and we'll make plans. chat soon.

The owners of the DellyDeck are from Kansas City. They are friends of ours. Jeff(owner of DD)was a founder of First Watch, the company my husband works for. They are nice people. Teresa, did you have any advice for being a mom on the islands? How old are your kids and do you know if there is a need for at home childcare on STT?

Kellymac,

That is cool to hear about the Delly Deck! My husband and I love having breakfast over there. Being a mom on the islands....well, my kids are 7, 6, and 1. Depending on income, everyone has a different experience with schools. I ended up putting my oldest two in public school after months of trying to find the right private school. It has worked really well. I don't recommend the public junior high schools yet, but the elementary schools have been more than I expected. I tried to homeschool my kids and realized that I couldn't hold three different grades at once. 🙂 I definitely think that childcare is a need on island. Back in the states (I try not to start sentences with that, but in this case...), you could call one number and get a list of home day-care providers in your area, here I have not seen many advertisements for home day-care. I might be looking into that soon, for a part time thing. That is my next big adventure. I think you would do well.

Teresa
