I allowed my TX drivers license to expire a few days ago and now have to go through the rigamarole of getting a VI one without a valid license. Am I correct that I need to take a road test, writing test, and go to a physician? Are they going to take blood (shudder). Please tell me a stool sample does not apply here. Nightmare!

You can't renew your texas one online? Once you have it it will be much easier to get your VI one.

you might be lucky...this is from the Texas Dept. Public Safety website:

You have indicated that you want to renew your Driver License/ID card.
The eligibility requirements for online renewal:

Card will expire in less than one year and has not been expired for more than two years.
Last renewal was in person at a Texas Driver License office.
Between 18 and 79 years of age.
Cannot have a Class A or B driver license, or a commercial
driver license.
Vision, physical, or mental condition has not changed in a way that
affects ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Not currently suspended or have outstanding traffic tickets or warrants.
US citizen.
Social Security number on file with the Department

Do you meet the requirements and have all of the following items?

Your current DL/ID card in your possession and;
Valid credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or American Express);
The last four digits of your Social Security Number.

I just did it wooooo! Depending on how long it takes to receive I might still have to go through the whole VI process because I am registering for classes soon, but this was a cheap and definitely less involved option!

Hiya, I owe you a drink, my man.

So glad that it worked out for you...I did the same thing years ago and had to take the test etc.
I don't remember any poky needles tho'...I think it was more eyesight etc.

The written test is a trip...forget what you know about the rules of the road and memorize their booklet...typos and irrelevant bits copied straight from the PR driver's manual et al!!!

Oh man, that kinda sounds fun. I might just take it for the hell of it (after a few wet ones at RumRunners) lol.

No blood test, no stool sample, just the written test and a road test. Temper your stateside angst however long the wait, say Good Morning/Day/Afternoon and simply do what you're told. I could add a lot more but will stop there.:D

Is ' towing' the line your example of a typo or a pun?

i blame that one on jack daniels. i mean, uh, a pun. indeed.

Sally, I'll be giving lessons out at c-sted fort in a few weeks. Sick of long lines or dealing with this elusive and frustrating "island time?" First lesson--- will the Hotel on the Cay's boat to pick you up the second you step foot on the dock.
