Hello,
A friend is considering the Kindle. There is one that is just for the U.S. and one that says U.S. and international. Does anyone have one and know if the one for U.S. will work here? Thanks in advance.

Hey christineg,
I asked about this a while back, and we had a very informative thread. Try doing a search for kindle , all dates. Should help, but then, of course, as with all modern technology, it changes very quickly. I will also look forward to your answers here.

You might want to wait for the Nook. It will be out Nov 30. It uses the AT&T network as well as WiFi. It also reads open format eBooks instead of only the proprietary Amazon format. The Nook is from Barnes and Noble.

To quickly answer your question, the U.S. version uses Sprint so it will work in the USVI. My wife has one and it works fine.

I believe the International one uses AT&T so it will also work in the USVI as well as in other GSM covered islands/areas around the world.

I don't want to get OT but I did hear a rumor that Sprint may be pulling out of the USVI due to the recent cloning problem so it may be worth a few extra $$ for the international version. Again, this is nothing but a huge unsubstantiated rumor that I've heard.
