Good evening everyone. It was said that having a trade might be a good thing in the vi's. I own a landscaping company as well as a commercial construction cleaning company. Was just wondering if either of these skills are a plus and profitable on any of the islands? Which one? I also clean companies as well as private homes. Any ideas of employment in this area? Thank you in advance!!!

There is always a need for housekeeping services for condos and vacation villas that have short-term and long-term tenants vacating. I know I don't always have time to deal with this personally when the maid services I usually use don't have someone to clean a unit in time for the next occupant.

There are landscaping needs as well. Some through private individuals and some through property managers and some through resorts/condos/HOA's, etc. It depends a lot on how large a company you would want to set up on the island.

Although I would not close the door on any possibility of employment, I think I should clarify the type of cleaning I do. I do what is called phase or inspection cleaning. It is cleaning for different inspections of new construction, such as framing inspection, drywall inspection, and final move in. Is there a field for this? I also can do move out cleaning as you stated, but I really don't want to do housekeeping for a resort. Private hom cleaning on the other hand is good. Is landscaping, landscape design or landscape maintenance profitable?

Thank you once again!

There is very little development/construction here like you would be used to in the states. Most islanders build their own homes. The contractors who build custom homes for families are more likely to have someone on their crew to handle cleaning up leftover materials and such on the site. Almost no drywall is used in most properties and wood-framing is very rare. You could talk to contractors about whether they want someone to clean up floors prior to tiling or do a move-in cleaning on a new property, but it's not likely to be a huge industry to keep you busy. Landscaping would have lots more potential customers and home cleaning is big, especially in the high-end neighborhoods.

Thanks Alexandra. Did'nt think commercial cleaning would do all that well there, but had to ask. Quess I will keep the doors open to cleaning the high end markets (which I prefer anyway) and maybe dabble a bit in landscaping! Thanks again.

Wow - a lot has happened and changed since that 14 year old post -- be interesting to see if they ever came here and are still here working.
