Is it safe to leave your car overnight on a regular basis at the parking area in Red Hook for the ferry? I assume quite a few "commuters" do this regularly.

Edit: The car is "nothing special" and I know not to leave valuables in any car. 🙂

Any time we are going to St John to spend the night with friends we leave our car at Mencia's Lot up the hill behind Marina Market. Tell them you are leaving it overnight we have done it for three or four days before and never had a problem. Also if you are going for more than a day and have someplace to park it on St John it's just about as cheap to take the car barge over to St John and take the car with you.

Just FYI - Mencia's Parking Lot will be closed from 8pm - 5 am every night. The owners of Red Hook villas have installed a gate at the entrance to avoid people making noise in the lot at night.

Haven't been in a while, how is this legal, do they own the lot. I would assume that the street is public or the owners fo the lot at least have a riteaway through there.

Jaya -

I don't know the details but the property manager has been trying to get this done for a while. Mencia's and the Red Hook Villa parking lot is not public property so I don't see where there would be a problem.
