JJ found 3 lionfish in the mangroves at Altoona Lagoon today. He and hubby caught two with nets. We are going to go back with a hawaiian sling and try to get more.

I will let my brother know. He lives nearby and would LOVE to help decimate any he could find. What area of the lagoon did you see them?

Just past the bridge to the right in the Mangroves. We will go back this weekend with our slings. We have also seen them at Green Cay Marina. Found one in our bow thruster. Last year, the day of reef jam, we found two right off shore at Divi. We caught a baby one last year and put him in our salt water tank so JJ could observe him. Our eel ate him. Good to know that eels will eat them.

LOL JulieKay! That is what JJ tells everyone. "Eat them. They taste like chicken!" If we can get them on the menu here then we would wipe them out in a hurry. I refused to cook them up for dinner tonight.

They may be delicious but we try not to eat reef fish.

And posionous--be very careful of eating any higher predator reef fish because of the ciguatera risks. Especially lionfish.

I removed the post - I was really just trying to be silly, but thank you both for reminding that there are consequences for eating reef fish. I'll pause next time!
