Hello, I am planning to move to SST from Nashville--just not my scene here-- and plan to earn a comfortable living playing Buffett style caribbean music in small quaint waterfront restaurant/bar settings mostly to tourists (new crowd weekly). Because of other "sick-of-mainstream" artists like me, is this a highly competitive field in SST or is it a faIrly open market for good entertainers? Feedback kindly appreciated...Roger

Hello Roger,

There are a few bars that have live music frequently/regular scheduled nights like Tickles in Subbase and Pirates Cove Marina on the East End. Paradise Point has live bands from time to time. Hard Rock, Greenhouse and some resorts have live music from time to time also.

There are a number of muscians already in the market that play at different places... ie. they might play at one resort on Monday, another on Wednesday, a bar on Tuesday and Thursday... ect. And they are regulars at those spots each week.

I would suggest either having a few months worth of money saved to keep yourself afloat as you contact resorts and get your promo information to them and try and get yourself some gigs. Or get a day job and then in the evenings network with other muscians, go to the open muscians nights and see if you can get any leads/tips through those already in the business. Almost all muscians I have met here have a day job not related to music and then play music in the evenings as well.
