Does anyone out there know of a good volvo marine engine mechanic on st. Croix, we have a sailboat with an 1981 Volvo Penta Engine and are experiencing some transmission problems that I would be happy to elaborate upon. Thank you in advance for your help!

I can't offer any help other than you ask your questions at L&A if you haven't already done so..
It's likely someone there has had experience with that transmission.

Can't help on St Croix but All Points Marine in St Thomas is a Volvo dealer and service center. You could always sail it over. The other thing I would consider given the age of your poertrain, if it is much more than an oil leak, I would just to pull the transmision out yourself and order a rebuilt or reman one from the states. Given labor costs and frankly lack of available mechanics it might be a better deal in the long run.

It could also be a Hurth transmission, or sail drive (if it`s a cat).
If it`s a Hurth, it probably slips, if it`s a sail drive, it probably has water in the oil.
