Looking for Jobs and Advice

My boyfriend and I really want to move to St. Thomas. He is currently in the process of waiting to hear back from a prospective employer that he has had almost daily contact with for about a week and a half. While I am hopeful that this will workout, even if it doesn't we still want to move and need to search for other employment. Also, either way I will need to find employment, but if he has found some I can wait until we make the move to secure my own. However, it can't hurt to try and establish some contacts. And although I realize it is difficult to secure a job while not on the island we are very hesitant aobut moving without either one of us having any employment.

What I am looking for is some contacts or advice for going about this job search. He is currently an Iron Worker out of in NH. He is the project manager. His past includes working as a General foreman for the local 7 in boston which required many courses in blue-pring reading, leadership, safety, and iron working, owning and operating his own company (which he still does part time) that focused on site preparation of numerous residential developments inluding tree removal, stumping, stripping loam, and grading, sewer tie-ins, and utility trenches and conduit. He also spent 4 years in the U.S. Marine Corp, and served in the Gulf War. He would prefer to be in a supervisory position, but could never just sit back and let everyone else do all the labor.

I graduated in May with a Bachelor of Arts in business. I currently work as a Data Analyst for a company that completes global reports and publications focused on the forestry products industry, including wood, paper, timber, and pulp. I am not happy in this position and would like to consider other career paths. I am very interested in Event Planning or other areas of hospitality, Human Resources, and Marketing. I have experience organizing and running an event for a non-profit organization. I am very open to trying new things as long as I use my brain, and am not constantly sitting at a desk staring at the computer. I have a lot of experience with Microsoft word, excel, powerpoint, and access. Also, minimal experience in web building and HTML. I enjoy working with people and keeping busy.

I have resumes for both of us ready to go and would love to hear ANY ideas people have for going about this process. We would love to move ASAP.

I apologize for the length of this message! And thank you all in advance for any advice you may have!

We are relocating to St Croix and I am searching for job opportunities. I have not found a location or contact to send my resume. I have a well rounded business and skilled labor background that may be of use to organizations. I am best known for getting the job done within the parameters set by management and customers. My ability to develop and implement solutions has saved them significant time and money.
I hope to find a position that will best match my personal and educational qualifications. As an Electrician, Contractor, Project Manager and Systems Administrator, my career has covered responsible positions with many firms and customers. In addition, as a consultant, I have worked closely with the officers of many corporations, focusing on a wide range of engineering problems.
I would like to send out my resume that briefly outlines my experience over the past 20 years. I hope that my qualifications meet the needs of the island.

Thank you
Roy

Roy and Laurie Ann,
Most times you need to be "on-island" before employers will seriously consider you for employment. It is important to have enough resources (i.e. money) to get by for 30-60 days until you find something. Also, be prepared that you may have to take a job outside your intended position until other things open up. There are jobs, but things move very slowly here. But, its well worth the hassle to be able to live here. Good Luck to you both!

Hi folks,

I'm not sure if you're aware that there's also a Jobs/Resume board on this site. It would probably benefit y'all to make sure your info is posted there. 🙂

The Jobs/Resume board can be found at:

Best of luck to you all!
