What is that awful racket -- sounds like jet engines -- coming day and night from WAPA. It has been going on intermittently for several days now. It is pretty loud up in the hills. I can't imagine what it is like in the projects next door.

I used to live at Colony Cove and there was intermittent super loud hiss noises from WAPA.. That hissing sound is produced by relief valves that open to release excess pressure... when the pressure normalizes, the sound disappears... if you are in STT, well, it will do exactly the same... If that is the case, then it turns out it is perfectly normal... Said noise could be a lot more common during the hotter streaks of weather in the Caribbean..

This is more of a roar than a hiss! -- as I said -- jet engines.

A roar can be too... it just varies with the size of the piping... They have a vessel called a Deaerator, and when it vents excess pressure, it is super loud ... If is a vent on one of the larger vessels, a tower for example, it may sound like a jet engine... Most of these release steam, so it gets vented straight into the atmosphere... When relief valves open to the atmosphere like that, the sound waves travel very far, and easier to hear if you live on a hill...

As I said, I am not there so I am not entirely certain, but your description makes it more likely it is and RV, a.k.a. PSV (Pressure Safety Valve)...

Yep...I live right up the hill from WAPA. Perfectly normal, I suppose. It has done this for years.

That's the sound of your money being sucked into a black hole.

Just imagine what the teachers and students at the school right next door have to deal with it. The teachers can't talk over that loud noise. The only teaching that goes on is if they're individually working with a student.

One of the worst ideas ever to either develop a community around that plant or to place a plant in the middle of a community. I'm not sure which one came first.

Actually, it's been pretty quiet for the past week. Must have been the last rate increase.
