Please don't expect the fast food restaurants to be even similar to the stateside counterparts. I frequent Villa La Reine McDonalds because I work nearby. They have been out of chocolate and strawberry shakes, apple pie and cinnamon for oatmeal for months. The place is filthy. They burnt my english muffin and I knew it because I smelled the burnt bread through the bag before I even opened it. When I complained to the manager she said" I don't know the owner's name. They are off island. I don't know the owner's number. They are off island. I don't know when the owner will come back. They are off island. They are off island. They are off island..." I called corporate headquarters and they told me to call 340-773-3119 which is a DISCONNECTED number. I called corporate headquarters back and they said all they can do is give me the disconnected number. I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN!

This must be directed towards people who don't yet live here but are thinking about it as I can't imagine that anyone who lives here expects anything else.

Why do you keep going back anyway when all of your visits (months and months) there have been so disappointing and the place is "filthy" - are you a masochist?

These are the little things in life in the VI that can drive some people crazy.
Not everyone is meant for island life.
One often finds this at all McDonalds as well as Kentucky Fried and other fast food places in the VI.
They are out of "ting dem." People working there don't get paid enough to really care so often times, they don't.
You get what you get and if you don't like it, well.......too bad for you, den!:-o

No I am not a masochist. I expected it to improve after I complained (for "months" NOT "months and months") and they kept saying they were out FOR NOW., so I assumed the items were coming back soon.

I think maybe the problem for your frustration exists in the verbs you used: " expected" and "assumed"

I guess according to some you should have "assumed" and "expected" to be living in a third world country. Silly you.
Remember this when you see one of them complaining about something here. Can you say hypocrites?

I hit up some fast food joints in the states, and the service is not that much different than in St. Croix. You get what you pay for.

I do not believe that McDonalds are locally owned. I remember a guy named Cosmo Williams was the owner, but I think they are now owned and operated by a company named Arcos Dorados. Arcos Dorados is the largest operator of McDonald's restaurants in Latin America and the world's largest McDonald's franchisee.

Arcos Dorados serves 4.3 million customers at more than 1,940 Company-operated restaurants in 20 countries and territories (Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Ecuador, Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Trinidad & Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela).

I was referring to 'expecting service to improve' and 'assuming the items would return soon' -- nothing related to a third world, only the frustration that was expressed - I doubt I will ever feel like a hypocrite on this forum when I post a comment - and I rarely remonstrate criticism of my opinions.

The McDonald's restaurants in the Vi are actually impeccably maintained, clean and well funded. The problems with burned muffins, slow service and bad attitudes stem from the staff, not the owner. Fast food is only fast if the fast food staff move at a fast - or even reasonable pace - if everyone working is trying to break a "slowness" record then no establishment in the VI will survive. Nevertheless, I don't think that McDonald's is going anywhere.

I too have had many frustrating experiences at the local McDonalds. However, I'm much healthier than I would be if their service was faster or on par with the mainland. Although lately I've noticed an improvement in serving times since there are so few people left on STX to eat at McD. Often. I'm the only one in line these days.

i'd guess (wildly) that STX lost 5% of its population after Hovensa closed, but the ripple effect is much larger. People are spending, shopping, eating out, and driving around much less.

Wel, sorry EZ. But it sure looked like you and OT were ganging up on the OP. We all need to vent some times because of service here or lack thereof. Ball busting doesn't help.
And the fact that these people don't get paid enough to care is BS in any situation. My Grand Pappy always used to say " if you're not happy with your job then quit. Don't include everone else in your misery".

I've eaten twice at Mc'D's on STX. The first was breakfast in 2005 at the La Rein shop because we thought we could get a quick meal. We had planned to eat at the Salt river Marina before a kayak tour. The restaurant was closed. The owners were on vacation. We rushed to McD's to get slooooow service and bearly eatable food.
The second time we were forced by poor planning for lunch before a flight out to go to the McD's in Sunny Isle mall. The service and food quality were about the same as on the mainland. So it seems to depend more on the staff that the fact that they are in the VI's.

When I looked into the back of a kentucky fried stateside several years ago, I was grossed out by the crud built up on the floor with the middle part mopped and crud pushed into the corners and edges. I would not expect the island to be any better. Also, there is the slow service at the (fast food) place, and, the teeth sucking. You can do better than supporting corporate interests and eat much better. Ever heard of pink slime? Search (McDonald's Pink Slime). Do not give them another dime!

TuTu McDs. is pretty bad. I don't eat the food but I do love their coffee. When I'm in TuTu with the BF for lunch I get a coffee and boy it takes a WHILE just to get to the front and then a 10 min wait for the coffee. Not the end of the world, just have to plan accordingly lol. Lately when I really want a good cup of coffee I go all the way downtown to Barefoot Buddha. Good food and coffee!

The ONLY place I now will refuse to go to is the subway in Red Hook. By FAR the WORST service on or off the rock I've ever had. Weve gone twice. The first time they were out of ham but refused to substitute more turkey or even bologna as my last resort and on the second time, we spent 37 min in line. There was only 4 in front of us ????????? I stayed and timed the line only for pure curiosity. I asked for extra black olives that I said would gladly pay for and OH MAN the look and attitude I got! Holy crap! I usually never call women bitches but..........

*** The views and opinions expressed in my posts are soley those of A&A2VI and other like minded islanders. These views and opinions do not necessarily represent those of the majority or any/all contributors to this site. Have a GREAT DAY!

Ever heard of pink slime? Search (McDonald's Pink Slime). Do not give them another dime!

FYI, the pink slime pics & stories that have been circulating on the internet are fake.

Snopes article on pink slime:

According to the Source, McDonald’s Voted One of the Best Companies for Which to Work. The Source is such a propaganda newspaper. I find it hard to believe that they arbitrarily decided to publish a story today about McDonalds that is almost a month old. I have a hunch that the folks at the source have been reading this thread. Here's today's article on McDonalds.... http://stcroixsource.com/content/business/st-thomas-business/2013/06/20/mcdonald-s-voted-one-best-companies-which-work

If they are the best places to work they sure aren't the best for food (whatever may be available, since they are always out of something or other) nor service. Pretty sure that was a paid for article. The Daily News "voted best" places are usually paid for as well.

I don't usually eat at fast food places, maybe once or twice a yr. if I am running around, starving and do not have time to stop.
I hate it if I have a hankering for the chocolate milkshake (an annual event) and they have none!

I hope that proves how the Source is a joke of a "newspaper". Their so called "articles" are pretty much govt or private press releases. I usually refer to them as the Worst instead of the Source.

I don't think it proves anything of the sort and can't fathom how you can conclude that their articles are "pretty much govt or private press releases" unless you only glance at it very occasionally. Where's condemnation warranted in reporting on an award given to a company just three weeks ago? Is this such huge news that it should warrant a headline banner within a day?
