Hello All,
Does anyone know about the hospital on STT? I heard that the government dropped a program to fund nurses pay and many nurses left the island. Who owns the hospital? Also, are there any pediatricians on the islands? The only thing I do know is that our medical insurance will be thru Cigna.

Teresa: The hospital is a semi-autonomous agency of the territorial government. They cut their own checks and hire their own people (as opposed to other government agencies in which the hiring goes through the Governor's office). I don't know about nurses leaving island, except for the contract nurses- they are only here for a short time anyway (13 weeks or so)...Yes, there are pediatricians. One interesting thing about the health care system is that MDs employed by the hospital are the only ones who can take care of you if you are admitted. There are several in private practice only who just turn you over to the hospital docs...

Hello Theresa,

There are six pediatricians listed for St. Thomas; some of the family health clinics have peditricians or general health physcians for seeing kids with colds/flu/fever/rash ect.
